Sarah Elizabeth Would you count P.D. James?? :)

message 2: by Batya (new)

Batya (catsmile) | 1 comments My favorites aren't modern: Patricia Wentworth and Georgette Heyers (the mysteries, only). I like Jacqueline Winspear's books, but not sure if those qualify. I definitely prefer cozies, not graphic crime.

Pamela Grandstaff | 1 comments I am a Martha Grimes and PD James fan. I can hardly wait for the next book in their series to come out.

message 13: by David (new)

David Peters Most of my favorites are Scottish - the Tartan Noir. I love MC Beaton's Hamish series but can't get into the Agatha ones.

but for my favorite English mysteries I really like John Harvey's later works. Just finished Far Cry this week and it was great.

message 14: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) David have you read Rhys Bowen? Her Evans series is reminiscent of Hamish but set in Wales.

message 15: by David (new)

David Peters I have read book one and it was pretty good. I need to work the blacklist when I get a chance.
