My word goal for tonight is 500 words.

Mine for the day is 2000. I've got 1578 so far!

Word goals are an interesting thing. I am in the editing stage so I don't have a word goal per say... but I am curious how many words per page do you guys typically average?

Typically I try and write 4-10 pages a day when I am in the writing stage. Never looked at the words. (But then pages are very subjective too depending on font and formatting)

Also, what about final product? What is a good word count do you all think?

to write 50,000 in a month, you have to write over 1,660 words a day. Some authors shoot for 2,000 a day.

That sounds like a pretty reasonable goal, honestly.

My goal for today is 500 words! We'll see....

Wrote 136 today. Not what I'd like, but better than nothing!

I think writing 500 words daily is a good, non-intimidating goal for most writers. Obviously if you can write more then do so, but if you're strapped for time to belt out 2,000+ words, I'd say shoot lower for best results.

That being said, my goal for today is 500 and yesterday I got close with 465!

I think I'm gonna try 500 everyday. I really should be able to... ;)

I didn't make it yesterday, but I am really going to try today! Maybe!

I try and write 500 words a day! I keep my goal pretty small! I can normally write that in half hour.. depends on my mood adn the way the story is going!

Yes, my mood makes a huge difference as well.

I reached my 500 goal today! :)

*thumbs up* Awesome. That is one thing I am not very good at on a daily basis.

When I do write however I can generally do 1000-1500 words easily.... the problem is I "trick" myself into thinking that makes up for skipping day other times when it really should not.

Yeah. I've been so busy lately, I rarely have more than half an hour a day to write. And I usually spend that on Goodreads.... *sheepish grin*

Lol yeah, there is so much to take your time and compete with writing once you turn on a computer.

Thanks Astrid, and I completely understand about life... mine is crazy busy too! A full time job, my writing, and a family keeps me running all the time!

I have been wondering about word goals... how would we make an equivalent to word goals in the editing process?

I have been doing a lot of editing trying to get my next book polished up to come out this fall/winter. I feel guilty some days because I have no "achievement" in a word number... I know editing is JUST as important as the initial writing but I can't seem to make a sensible equivalent of progress in my mind.

That is actually a good idea Astrid. I had not thought of that.

It is such a simple solution makes me wonder why I never thought of that... See how much I complicate things. lol :P

Well, so far I have got the first 1/4th or so of book 2 in the Varsian Kingdom Series done. I have hit a slow point, though.

I can write 1K or 2K words at time on a good day but then I always miss days a lot so it doesn't add up as fast as it should....
