Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.

Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

I knew it was coming... but this stealing of the dress still makes me want to cry :(
Also, I find it interesting in Cinderella stories that there's always one lead mean girl, and the other stepsister feels bad, but still follows along. I appreciate that Cinderella stories point out that standing by and not standing up against bad behavior makes one just as complicit as the one inflicting the damaging words. Very fitting for a read around MLK Day...

Ok, so Darien grew on me. He went through his whiny "I'm famous and woe is me" and was a butthole to Elle. Then... he got his act together and was actually pretty cool. Still glad that Sage got the (a) girl in the end. She's a pretty awesome character. Would love to hear a story with her as the lead character.

This was a great read and was a good sequel to Geekerella. Parts of it were kind of cheesy and predictable, but I love knowing the nerd references and can relate to several of the characters. It looks like there will be a third book coming out; I can't wait to see what fairy tale retelling it will be.
