Suitable for Intermediate. The author was born in Singapore (where the story is set) and now lives in Auckland. A boy is looking for his missing uncle while trying to survive on his own, and is helped by his female friend, who is a spy. The book gives a picture of what life was like in Singapore for the Europeans as well as the local population. Set during WWII. A slow build to an exciting story, with a bit of a twist at the end which show the importance of true friends and family.
