Well kind off, if your into BSG then I recommend the Licuna series I've forgotten who the author is. I think that's the correct spelling of Licuna. That's the closest I can come to BSG.
Go get Peter F Hamilton's Pandora's Star. Lots of high tech, futuristic ideas, war against aggressive aliens and plenty of ruined planets. Be warned, though, it's the first of two big books followed up by a trilogy and a new series just released.
James wrote: "Cheers :) ... So what kinda scifi military are you into?"I'm into everything as long as it's well written. I'll give you some examples so you can see if you like them. David Weber's Honor Harrington series, Jack Campbell's Lost fleet series, Honsinger's Man of War series, David Sherman's and Dan Crag's Starfist series, Rick Shelley's Dirigent Mercenary Corps series, Jean Johnson's Theirs not to Reason Why series, Peter Grant's Maxwell Saga series, David Gunn's Death's head series. Those are only a few examples. If you like the look of any of these, PM me and I'll give you some more suggestions.
I've just started William Gibson's newest novel The Peripheral, and I'm loving it so far. It's pretty damned "futuristic", bouncing between mid- to late 21st Century rural Americana - reminds me of south-central Ohio or Kentucky. Or is Gibson revisiting his Virginia boyhood? - and a far further future where ultra body-mod'ed cultists have used nano-tech to build a floating city out of all the plastic in that huge garbage patch out in the Pacific Ocean. From the opening paragraph:They didn't think Flynne's brother had PTSD, but that sometimes the haptics glitched him. They said it was like phantom limb, ghosts of the tattoos he'd worn in the war, put there to tell him when to run, when to be still, when to do the bad-ass dance, which direction and what range...

couldn't find Licuna. Pandora's Star sounds cool, but it clocks in at 1144 pages!
Speaking of military sf: just a few days back, I wrapped up the very good War Dogs by Greg Bear. It's a grunt's-eye-view of combat on the surface of Mars, with space Marines - aka "Skyrines" - fighting the Antags (for "Antagonists") on behalf of humanity's alien benefactors (the "Gurus"). There's a FUBAR'd drop onto the Red, run-ins with weirdo colonists variously called Muskies and Voors, and it all ends up at a mysterious geological feature called the Drifter. And it comes in at a short and gratifyingly dense 304 pages - highly recommended!
Sorry for the misspelling guys, the correct spelling of "Licuna" is in fact Lacuna. This series is written by David Adams.

The Spectras Arise Trilogy by Tammy Salyer has a kind of post apocalyptic feel to it. It's got good characters and action, space ships, etc...Definitely a great read.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Alastair Reynolds. Century Rain is a particular favourite of mine, but the The Revelation Space Collection is where the spaceships are.
Some more military scifi recommendations for you. On Silver Wings is an excellent military and futuristic science fiction novel. This is the first book in what is currently a five book series. It's by Evan C. Currie. Also the Merkiaari wars series you can either start with What Price Honour or Hard Duty. This series is by Mark E. Cooper. If your looking for a light read then I recommend, Omega Rising it's about a former military guy discovering the existence of aliens. Just a light and brain candy read.
Hmm. Michael Flynn's Spiral Arm has a disaster in its past, and the tech is amazing. Not what you usually think of a post-apocalyptic, though. The January Dancer, Up Jim River, In the Lion's Mouth, On the Razor's Edge. Each one is stand-alone although they do benefit from being read in order.
