I enjoyed Nada. It captures the atmosphere of what it was like to live in Spain after the Civil War. The text uses the imagery of eyes often. This brought to mind: a person seeing the outside world, a person being viewed by another person's eyes, perceptions on on the way we see the world, the characters not really seeing each other (lost in their own world of dealing with hunger and hardship), sudden flashes of really seeing someone, seeing as spying (indicating lack of trust), etc. Plus, of course, family dysfunction - and friendship. And throw in references to characters suffering from nerves that captures the hardship well. Four star read!
Sherri, I very much agree with your views. I really liked this book and it is still very much on my mind and probably will be for a while yet.
