Select the style of eyeliner you prefer. Pencil eyeliners come in a variety of consistencies. Self-sharpening, smooth pencil eyeliners are very convenient and easy to apply. Liquid eyeliner is more difficult to put on, however it gives the eye a more dramatic look. 2. Step 2
Start at the inside corner of the upper eyelid and work your way across the eyelid with the eyeliner. Keep the eyelid held taut to ensure a solid line of eyeliner. Apply the liner in as thin or thick of a line as you prefer. 3. Step 3
Squeeze the liner down in between the eyelashes so there isn't a space between the line and your lashes. 4. Step 4
Lift the pencil up slightly as you reach the outer corner of the eye. This will make your eyes appear larger and more open. 5. Step 5
Use eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes only if you have large eyes, as it can make small eyes appear even smaller. When applying to the bottom eyelid, look up and start at the outside corner, working your way in. Remember to work the liner in between the lower lashes, just as you did on the top eyelid. 6. Step 6
Apply eyeliner to the inside rim of the bottom eyelid for a very dramatic look. Only use a pencil style of eyeliner for this application method, as liquid liner may accidentally come into contact with your eyeball and cause stinging. 7. Step 7
Blend the eyeliner if necessary and use a cotton swab to remove any smudges or excess makeup.
