Watchmen--Is it one of the best comics of all time or is it overrated? Is the film adaptation a good one? Are you excited for the HBO series? Let us know!

I have the book at home, but haven't read it. I do remember seeing the movie when it came on cable and it was the first thing I'd ever seen like that (alternate history+comic story) and even in the opening credits I was like "WTF is going on???" I was like 25 or so and was currently in school for my history degree.

I was excited for the HBO series until I saw the trailers and it looks rather lackluster to me, but my fiance is really excited for it and we got our HBO subscription going for it. I will be watching. Need to read the comic - I probably will before the show airs.

I'm more excited for The Golden Compass!! I just finished reading it with my daughter in preparation for us to watch the show. Any plans for The Golden Compass on the horizon?

I was also a little underwhelmed by the film when I watched it originally, but I have a feeling it'll be a whole different experience watching it after reading the graphic novel!

As far as Golden Compass is concerned, we're definitely interested in it, but it's coming at a time where we're jam-packed with other things too. It may be something we end up covering at some point though! Maybe early 2020?

I read the comic before watching the movie so I quite enjoyed it, I think they captured well each of the characters and generally the spirit of the comic book. I specially enjoyed the soundtrack, I think it adds a very cool atmosphere to the whole story. Otherwise, but I think this is true for most adaptations, many events in the movie which are also in the comic book appear to be rushed, I like the tempo of the graphic novel and this was a bit lost in the movie but it seemed inevitable.

With regard to the series, I heard that it does not have much to do with the comic book, just that it happens within the same universe where superheroes are outlawed. But still excited to watch it and see what new story they come up with using these common elements from the graphic novel.

There's is a director's cut of Watchmen that adds in more elements of the graphic novel, including animated scenes. It's 2hrs 42mins.
