It's hard to believe, but it's about time to start looking ahead to the 2020 edition of the TBR climbs. I'm getting my challenges prepared for next year and will be setting up the Mount TBR 2020 site soon. And for those who enjoyed (or would like to try) the climb that involves TBR books that you DON'T own, the VIRTUAL Mount TBR Challenge will be back as well. Once I have the Goodreads Groups set up for both of these, I will post the links on this thread so you can find them.

Pamela | 110 comments I've signed up again. I've barely made it past the half way point towards my goal for this year... Hoping I'll do better next year.

Hilary and Pamela--glad to see you coming back for more in 2020!

message 7: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Thanks for all the advanced planning Bev! I will be signing up again though I think I will skip the virtual mountain (otherwise I will never be able to force myself to read those already owned books!).

message 8: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments I have 13 left to make my goal for this year, but I am totally ready to try again next year. Thank you for doing this every year, Bev! I love having the extra push to clear my backlist, even as I add to the stacks for next year. LOL

Glad to have all of you climbing with me--it's good to know that we're not alone in our book-hoarding ways. :-)

message 10: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) I'm not doing too well with my challenges, but it's been the craziest year for me, so I hope I can do better in 2020. Bev, thanks for organizing this again, it is always such fun how everyone is doing. I'm signing up for both challenges :)

Those crazy years can really take a toll on us. Hope 2020 is a better one!

Nell Bev - I miss the quarterly check-ins. Will you be doing those again in 2020? No prize needed. It's fun to do and to see what other readers post... and it gives me an extra push to climb the mountain.

I'm going to try (but not promise). I fell off the check-in wagon this year (for various reasons) and hope to be back on schedule in 2020. :-)

Conny I'm going to be back, too :) Lots of unread books to be scaled, err, read^^

message 16: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (grandmommyd) I plan to be back next year; there are still hundreds of books on my shelf! But it feels so good to have cleared out so many this year. I raised my goal several times and now am just one away from my current level goal. Think I will call it quits for this year once I've read that one, and spend the rest of the year on more of my library TBR list. Just having this mountain challenge here has motivated me to finally do some deep whittling on my piles. Thank you!!!

So glad you've done so well on your climb this year...and that you'll be back for more in 2020.

Linda Hanson | 18 comments I’ll be back next year. I’ve read so many from my shelf. The only drawback is that I can only vote for 2 of this year’s Goodreads nominations as I’ve read very few new releases this year. Oh well, I’ve let others vet them to read next year. Thanks for this group. The climb has been rewarding.

Susan | 61 comments Thanks for organizing this, Bev. My piles never seem to get smaller, but at least I have an alibi! I’ll be signing up for both the real and virtual TBR climbs next year.

Yes--it is quite puzzling how all this climbing and knocking books off the TBR mountains never seems to make them diminish. I know, in my case, that it couldn't possibly have anything to do with bringing them in faster than they get read. ;-)

message 26: by Ezgi (last edited Nov 20, 2019 01:02PM) (new)

Ezgi T (athenaninguncesi) | 25 comments This year I only managed to read 12 pre-2019-owned books, but I also tried to read some of the ones I purchased in 2019 (around 24-25 books), so I'm thinking this is a success!

I usually get distracted a lot by library and e-books, so I'm trying to read more of the physical pile at the home.

I've already set up my 2020 thread, and I'm very excited to start over!

Gayle (OutsmartYourShelf) (outsmartyourshelf) I'm not going to complete my challenges this year, a relative had a back operation 5 months ago plus my own health issues have obviously impacted on my reading time. I've also had quite a lot of 2019 arcs to read this year which has affected things. Still, I'm pleased with my progress and definitely up for actually completing one of these in 2020.

Any progress is good progress! Glad you'll be back in 2020.

Hope that all is going well with your relative.

message 29: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Howes Think I made it too easy on myself this year. Ended up going up a level on both mountains, and at the time of writing this I only have 4 books left (2 from each mountain)!

Think next year will just be doing Mount TBR.

See you on the mountain in 2020~

message 31: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) Woohoo! Thanks for putting it all together, Bev. I have such a good time with the challenge, make some new book buddies, and make a good dent in my pile each year.

message 32: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) This was my first year doing the Mount TBR Challenge and it was a lot of fun! I'm reading 1 and still need 5 more to complete Mount Everest but I'm going for it! And I will be back in 2020!

I think I'm also going to join the Virtual Mount TBR Challenge in 2020. I was a little confused by it (and daunted by it) this year but I think I understand it better. I went through my 2019 Read list and would have gotten to Mount Mindolluin as I read 87 books that I did not own.

message 33: by Darci (new)

Darci (girlbetweenthepages) | 58 comments I really enjoyed this!
Hopefully next year I will be better at updating the books I’ve read :)
Thank you for taking the time to do all this, Bev!

message 34: by Jadetyger (new)

Jadetyger Sevea I've already set myself up for 2020. Pike's Peak again, but I'm really hoping to go higher. The TBR only grows higher...

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I'm so looking forward to a new year, this year started out great then from August - November not so great,

message 36: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Thank you for setting these up! The 2019 challenge hasn’t stopped me from buying far too many new books, but it has, at least, led me to read some in my immense TBR stacks. And now here’s 2020, with a fresh chance to try again.
