So, here's a thread where I'll be posting about my many WIPs that can't all have separate threads.

A story I've been working on quite a bit lately is Of Sails and Souls, a Siren/pirate/adventure sort of story. The blurb:“Immortality was something Nalu Ka’ino never asked for, but appreciated. Realizing she was half-Siren was surprising, but made sense. Incurring the wrath of the gods? Well, that had been expected.”
When the gods of Olacheia get angry with Nalu for being unable to enter the underworld, they began to tear apart their very world in their conquest to make sure Nalu actually dies.
It’s not her fault that Sirens don’t have souls, but now it’s up to her to put together a crew and stop the temperamental gods before they destroy everything and she’s left to argue with them for eternity, or before they finally find a way to kill her permanently.
It’s time for the blue-haired bandit to save the world and die multiple times trying.
A piece of a conversation between Nalu and her father. She's definitely unlike any character I've written before. “There’s just something about it, right?” Her father came to watch beside her, his eyes fastened on the rolling waves that crested against the hull of the ship. “I met your mother on the sea. We were both just regular sailors, with saltwater in our veins and dreams bigger than the seas.”
“And when you stared into those eyes of hers, so green yet blue, it was as if the whole ocean had been swallowed in her gaze, that’s when you found out that she punched people in the nose who stared too long,” Nalu added, able to visualize the story perfectly in her head. Her mother’s long hair pulled back into a braid, eyes furious as she socked her father in the nose. It was a beautiful picture, really.
SHINE wrote: "I LOVE ALL OF THEM!"Thanks, Shine! This is my first time working with pirates and I kind of love them now XD
This entire story feels a bit like a fever dream, but I'm lowkey in love with it XDOne excerpt to prove that my writing style is coming on VERY strong:
She was definitely dead. There wasn’t a question about it. But did dead people know they were dead? Now there was a question to ask a philosopher. Was there any chance she could still do that?
“Please stop closing your eyes. You’re embarrassing yourself.” The voice was deep, powerful, and ancient. Also, very, very annoyed.
So, Of Sails and Souls is one of two novels I'm writing for NaNoWriMo. Today I wrote 3,500 words of it! So I'm pretty excited about that. And a little excerpt to keep you all interested...She grinned and grasped the hardened hand of the goblin. His eyes were narrowed in concentration. His pulse thudded dully against her own, the sweat on his brow gleamed in the poor light of the pub. How desperate his gaze was. How strong a soul coursed through his heart, mind, and veins. A predator-like sensation enveloped her, and from the shifting stance of the people watching--they felt it too.
“Ready?” shouted the bartender. “Go!”
Nalu barely felt, barely thought. The ocean thundered in her ears and veins. It pulled at her heart. Down, down, down she let her mind go.
Instinct took over.
Her arm smashed down the hand of the goblin, splintering the tables to pieces. Euphoria stole her senses and she laughed.
The room was dead silent.

And thanks!
Hi I’m not from the US but is it possible for me to participate in this anyway, though I’m not part of NaNoWriMo over there??
Abbie wrote: "Hi I’m not from the US but is it possible for me to participate in this anyway, though I’m not part of NaNoWriMo over there??"NaNoWriMo is open to everyone, so whether you decide to do it officially or not, everyone can participate

No problem, I just find it cool that you are working on two at once!
I hit 20K words on Of Sails and Souls today, so that's exciting!!! When completed, it will probably be around 80K, so we're 1/4 of the way there!A longish excerpt to make up for not keeping this thread updated...
“This is crazy. You’re crazy. This whole thing is crazy. Please tell me you realize that.” He folded his arms, and Nalu was hit with how similar to Papa he was. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she attempted an eye-roll.
“His family is starving. They came to Uise looking for a new life and haven’t caught a break yet. Also, I’m not just throwing the money away. I do think he’ll be of help.” Frustration welled up inside Nalu like a lake pressing at the banks of a dam. Why did he always have to try and tell her what to do?
Makani ran a tired hand through his hair and groaned. “And you believed him? Nalu, he stole from us! He could easily have lied to you. You trust too easily.”
“And you don’t trust anyone!” she shouted. “Everyone is out to hurt you in life. That’s how you view the world. I get it, you think I’m immature and have no idea what I’m doing. But I don’t think trusting people is a flaw.” Her chest heaved as she kept back hot tears that burned behind her blurry vision. Shikes, why was she yelling?
His eyes widened in pain. “Is that how you think of me? That I’m some broken human who has been hurt so many times that I no longer know how to trust? Because you’d be right.”
Writing has been slow, recently because I've been busy editing Rose's Wrath. But I have a short excerpt for you all.“Did you miss me?” Nalu flashed Dethana her most winning smile, but failed to impress the faceless form in front of her.
“I specifically told you not to die again.” Dethana’s form shifted, and Nalu wondered if that was the immortal version of an eye roll. “Did you even try to follow that?”
“I did! For three months I didn’t die. For someone who is now technically immortal, that’s an impressive amount of time.”

I really like Nalu here, she sounds really caring, even to someone who supposedly stolen from them.

Lol, I love this! XD Dethana having told her not to die again and her response that she hasn't died in the last three mouths. XD This is priceless. Is this book you're writing a paranormal or fantasy?

Yes, Nalu definitely has a soft side, though she likes to pretend that she's indifferent to emotions XD
And aw, thanks! OSAS is pretty humorous at times, so I'm glad you like it! It is a fantasy, but with very little focus on magic (aside from immortal beings and some other magical beings)
I chose Rose's Ruin for my Camp NaNo, but have spent most of my time writing a new story, Everything We Lost. The blurb/prologue is this:Once upon a time, there was a girl with a secret. She held a darkness inside of her that scared her, but she told no one. The darkness grew until one day she decided to kill it. But the darkness had become a part of her, and so to kill it, she’d have to kill herself. The darkness hurt so much that she realized that it was worth it to end her life. But she didn’t.
Once upon a time, there was a boy who feared the world. He trusted no one and no one trusted him. He held onto all his pain and wore his fear like armor. But the fear didn’t protect him, and so the darkness tried to take him too.
Once upon a time, there lived a girl and a boy in the land of Nowhere. They were both ordinary and rather invisible. But when they were around each other, the very stars were jealous of the energy that frayed and sparked between them. When they were around each other, the darkness could not stand the fire that roared deep in their souls. When they were around each other, hurricanes came and bowed at their power.
Once upon a time, there was a girl and a boy who changed each other. And this is the story of how it all came tumbling down.
OH MY WORRRD Oceane this is amazing! What, might I ask, are their names?! It’s ok if it’s a secret tho 😉 This is so cool you left me hangin
Haha, I can tell you. That was more the prologue, which is super vague and ominous. Here's the official blurb:
Lani Clarke has vowed to never admit that she likes Mason Markal. There's no logic to it, and every scenario ends in pain.
But sometimes the brain can't overrule the heart, and Lani's heart knows exactly what it wants.
Not every story has a happily ever after, though, and Lani knows the ending of this one before it even begins. He'll never accept her mental issues and she'll never be able to hold onto him.
Some stars are destined to burn. Some are destined to die. And Lani and Mason are destined for both.
Merie wrote: "*cries*"Sorry...? *winces* is it that obvious that this story can only end in flames? XD
Merie wrote: "also nO WAY OCEANE YOU HAVE BLUE-HAIRED CHARACTERS TOO! *high-five*"Blue-haired characters are the best!
idk how people have the stomach to write these heart-rending stories. do you have a heart Oceanealso yes, blue is the hot new character hair color!
Merie wrote: "idk how people have the stomach to write these heart-rending stories. do you have a heart Oceanealso yes, blue is the hot new character hair color!"
Ah, but that's the secret. I don't have one ;)
Also, a snippet from Everything We Lost. Trigger Warning: suicide and self-harm
What a shock it would be anyway if he ever found out. The girl of his dreams, unable to live with herself. The girl of his dreams, scarring her skin. I’m less a girl of dreams and more a girl of nightmares.
Merie wrote: "too many tears for one morning, Oceane"Sorry... And it only gets worse. So I understand if people choose not to follow this story. It's an important topic, but also sensitive.
Aw, don't worry about it-- I'm in too deep to go back now! And sometimes we all need an inspiring tragedy to get our fix.
Merie wrote: "Aw, don't worry about it-- I'm in too deep to go back now! And sometimes we all need an inspiring tragedy to get our fix."Very true
A brief tidbit from Of Sails and Souls. I absolutely ADORE writing fight scenes!***
Swinging her sword in a quick, controlled arc, she caught Ent’s trident, using the movement to slash with her knife under Ent’s defense.
But Ent was no longer there, having parried Nalu’s strike with blinding ease and side-stepped the second blow. She brought a heavy, two-fisted swing crashing down on Nalu’s sword, the ringing of metal setting Nalu’s blood on joyous fire. There was nothing quite like an uninhibited fight.
They traded blow after blow, block after block. Their fighting styles could not be more different. Ent was a mountain, a hurricane--brutal and unyielding. Nalu was the water, a bolt of lightning--blindingly fast and deadly, her blades a glittering storm.
A fun little piece from Everything We Lost where my characters are actually happy.I break the surface and grin at Maverick. “What’s up, everyone?” The confident, cheery tone surprises me, but it really shouldn’t at this point. I might have crippling insecurity, but I act like I'm the most confident person in the world. The perfect cover, I’ve found.
Octavius splashes me and laughs. “The sky?”
I groan and splash him back, chuckling as he sputters. “Gosh, Octavius. Can you be any cornier?”
“I mean, if I was an actual piece of corn…”
We all boo him and Maverick shoves him under the water.
A loud, bubbly laugh erupts from me and I realize that I’m happy.
“I love that you said that, O.” Mason leaps into the water, soaking everyone who wasn’t already wet.
“Hey! I was trying to keep my hair dry!” Grace rolls her eyes and wrings her long hair out. “Screw you.”
Mason puts a hand to his chest, gasping loudly. “I got your hair wet, Grace? I’m beyond sorry. What a tragedy.” I snort at that, covering my face. His eyes dart to mine and he grins.
Five chapters into Everything We Lost! Should I make a separate thread for it?Also, an excerpt:
Coward.
I close my eyes at the thought. It’s true, though. I’m doing this for myself. Even though I don’t like him, I also can’t bear the thought of being hurt. The thought of being abandoned. And nothing like this can ever last, anyway. I really am a coward, because I’ll never leap unless it’s off of a cliff.
