Personally I don’t like a protagonist that’s perfect. That has a plan every step of the way or one that can improvise without fear of any consequences what so ever.I think a perfect example of this is Kaz brekker from “ Six of Crows “.Not once in the story did I think oh shit Kaz is in trouble.

The opening scene when they faced off against that The Black Tips was actually quite exciting but the novelty soon wore off.By the time they were in the ice court I had half stopped caring.

I begin to feel when a character is strong yes,but has weaknesses too. When the goodies are powerful but they also have alot to lose. “The Planet Thieves “ does this surprisingly well , every second scene is jam packed with a chase or a battle or a rescue mission. It establishes very early on the mortality of the characters by killing of the Captain of their ship.Near the middle of the story they lose (view spoiler) .Its a deep moment and totally shocks the reader out of their minds ( I legit got goosebumps).

But I don’t mean that everyone needs to die. There only needs to be the threat looming over so that The protagonist’s actions have weight and importance.

Fun fact: In the planet thieves (view spoiler)
