Dirk Van | 4641 comments Holy Day today, so I had some time to watch this vid.
I know and like them all of course, but not sure if I would rank them like this. Personally I prefer the Beethoven 9 before the 5.

Heather | 8550 comments It’s interesting you say that about those two symphonies, Dirk.
I was reading some of the comments below the video and there was quite a long discussion regarding those two pieces. One person was analyzing the 9th while the other was saying the 5th is better. Then they were discussing the pieces’ popularity with the public and the extent of public knowledge about the compositions.
Anyway, it was actually a fascinating dialogue.

Heather | 8550 comments Franz didn’t even make the Liszt. What a shame!

Heather | 8550 comments I’m glad Bach Fugue In D Minor and Pachelbel Canon in D got honorable mentions but I think both of those should have been on the top 10 iconic list. And I am really glad Flight of the Bumblebee got at least an honorable mention, too.

My favorite composer was #2 😊 Antonio Vivaldi. Of course it is his Four Seasons. It seems that ‘Spring’ is every company’s piece they use to put people on hold while you’re on the phone and though I love the Four Seasons, really ‘Spring’ has been overplayed.

I like how they did give a rationale for why they chose which pieces. After hearing what they said about Beethoven’s 5th, I can see why they ranked it as they did. And I actually agree with them, I put the 5th before the 9th myself but I enjoy them both.

I didn't see the video referred to, but I love Beethoven's 7th far beyond the 5th - especially the Third Movement.

I had to look up the 7th-3rd movement to hear that which you are referring to. I found this, kinda fun:

For you, Albin

Albin Winters | 109 comments Heather, thanks - that was fun! But I made a mistake - meant the Second Movement!!

Dirk Van | 4641 comments Nice to watch!
Albin you can find a similar vid for the second movement on YouTube:

And indeed Beethoven's 7th is very nice, but I also like number 3 and number 6 always reminds me of Fantasia ;-)

Heather | 8550 comments Oh yes, I like the second movement better, too. But it’s all good music!

Ruth Need to come back to this when I have time.

Albin Winters | 109 comments Thanks, Dirk. Hard NOT to think of "Fantasia" when listening to the 6th!
