From a writer's perspective, why do you think that Gail Levine changed so much about the story from the original ideas?

To clarify, I mean the bonus chapters after the conclusion of the story. I understand how difficult it is to write a story, especially if you change such important details like creating/removing characters, even more so if they have a strong bond with a significant character such as the sibling of the antagonist. Changing minor details like names is way easier than entire concepts that have been woven throughout the story.
