Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I figured we're going to need a place to discuss those 'daily lines' by Diana Gabaldon.

When we finally have a title, I'll make sure to update!

message 2: by Donna (new)

Donna Simmons (drspurdue) | 33 comments Well, based on the lines Diana posted 11/12 - we now know for certain that the family Jaime and Claire saw coming in the distance at the end of MOBY was Roger, Bree, Jem and Amanda.

No waiting to verify what I am sure everyone had already guessed.

message 3: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Has Diana confirmed or denied book 9 as the last book?

message 4: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I believe she has said there will be at least one more after 9. I don't think she has a set number of books for Jamie and Claire. I just hope all the TV PR stuff does npot slow down her writing so we actually get the read the books.

message 5: by Mrsbooks (last edited Jan 12, 2015 09:30AM) (new)

Mrsbooks | 399 comments I can't see how she could finish on book 9 with her writing style. She's just too slow.

But I think the TV series will actually make things speed along. If they're doing one season a book and she takes 4 years for each book to be written, with book 8 just having recently been published and another one will be in 4 years then that just gives us 8 years which means only time for 2 books. She could always write faster to write more books but either way it has to be done in 8 years if they're going to continue the show. Unless she doesn't care that the series wouldn't have an ending.

Technically they could add more time by making the 2 smaller books a part of the seasons but I don't really think they need a separate season for those.

message 6: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments she said she knew where the last book would end - I think she actually has that scene(s) written - but its the getting there that takes so long

message 7: by Patty (new)

Patty When I saw Diana speak in November she said 3 years for book 9. We will see. Diana did say we would be getting books in 2015 - Outlandish Companion 1 and 2. I found this on Amazon The Outlandish Companion (Revised and Updated): Companion to Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, and Drums of Autumn release date March 31, 2015

message 8: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments but MOBY came out just after the TV show was announced -0 which meant during the majority of the TV negotiations the book would have been done

message 9: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Ms. Brooks - Technically they could add more time by making the 2 smaller books a part of the seasons but I don't really think they need a separate season for those.

Which 2 were smaller? They all seemed big to me?

Diane | 1360 comments Sharon wrote: "Then I am at a loss as to why the last book was not as cohesive as the others. I believe there had to be a lot of overlap before the TV show was announced. Just my opinion."

She also did the novellas in that time.I think the negotiations for the rights for the Series probably had an impact. Then there was the PR stuff they were doing before hand. It seems she has many pots on the burners at one time.

message 11: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments weren't most of the novella's that came out re-releases of ones that were previously published? none of them were really new

7.5 ad 8.5

message 13: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Still not sure which ones you are referring to - Echo and Moby? or the novella's? I wouldn't think they would do the novellas in the TV series if those are what you mean.

message 15: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Mrsbooks wrote: "7.5 The Space Between
8.5 A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows"

OK I see - yeah I wouldn't think they would use those as part of the TV series just as they wouldn't use The Scottish Prisoner even though it pertains to the main characters. Either way I hope she writes the next books quickly and hope the series goes all the way to the end.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do add somethings from them, but not devote a season to them. The back story on Roger's father is sad but not necessarily important. But the information in The Space Between could be very important regarding Claire, the Comte, Fergus and Raymond and time travel in general.

message 17: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I love MOBY. It's my third favorite in the series so far. I didn't think it was disjointed at all. There are a lot more stories being told in those pages than just Jamie and Claire. That means that there are a lot more POV hops but each one has a unique voice and they all still tie together in ways.

Also, MOBY took 4 years to write, whereas the show only took about a year after announcement. So that would mean that most of the book was written when that happened and it was just in the editing stages. I don't think the opinion of MOBY being disjointed would have much to do with the show, rather it's likely that you just didn't enjoy the book as much.

Mrs. Books and Diane, I worry about the time line between the show and the books, because she'll definitely get caught up to eventually if she intends to write past two more. Or she could be like George RR Martin who pretty much said that he's not writing faster because of the show. His work is his work. I respect that. I'd hate to have her rush and get a less than book.

message 18: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments And that is fine but there is fact - bk took 4yrs to write, TV show only announced in the last of those 4yrs and opinion which everyone can have but there is a difference

message 19: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments And no one is arguing with you on that - it was the comments about devoting more time to the show when that was at the tail end of the process that we are pointing out

I believe I read an interview with Sam Heughan and possibly Ron D Moore, that they mentioned that Diana suggested they read The Scottish Prisoner - parts of this book / novella will be needed to explain first the relationship between Jaime and Lord John

Mary (poetsdream) | 196 comments Dee wrote: "she said she knew where the last book would end - I think she actually has that scene(s) written - but its the getting there that takes so long"

Actually she said she wrote a prologue not the scene which is not the same thing. She said she still has to write the actual scenes/chapters.

Mary (poetsdream) | 196 comments Debbie wrote: "Has Diana confirmed or denied book 9 as the last book?"

No she has not committed that 9 would be the last one yet.

Here's a post from Diana from a few years back. Yes she has written the last scene of the book.

That prologue thing may be something she wrote for Ron and Sam for the series.

message 25: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments nope, no release date yet

I don't know why you would hold off reading number 8. It ends on a very satisfactory note. I felt really happy when I got to the end of WIMOHB. #7 had the big cliffhanger that made it especially hard to wait for #8.

message 27: by Zoey (new)

Zoey (rozannen) | 229 comments I agree with Erin Written in My Own Heart's Blood (book 8) has a great ending, its An Echo in the Bone (book 7) that you need to make sure you have the next one ready to go when you finish :)

message 28: by Tara (new)

Tara (wolf_mommy) | 7 comments Book 8 almost seems like it could be *The* end.

Not that I would want it to be!

message 29: by Beth (new)

Beth Sponzilli (bethsponzilli) | 19 comments She has said 2017 for book 9, and there will be a book 10! She has 2 novellas she is working on too.. One about Master Raymond and one about Jaime's parents.

message 30: by Tessa (new)

Tessa Eversole (dearnabby) | 39 comments I'd really like to read more and Geilis. She need to write a novel about Geilis side of the story from the time she was in 1900s to when she finally "disappears" in Voyager.

fantastic, ive been waiting for years for her to start on the Raymond thing, I think I may even buy a book of authors ive never heard of and don't want to read, just to get my hands on this. (never did appreciate the anthology thing and hopefully it wont be the case)

message 33: by Slip! (new)

Slip! | 89 comments Right right but I HATE HATE HATE having to wait for the next book to come out. It's why I started Outlanders back a few months ago - cuz there were 8 already, and I hadn't had to wait for each book!
I don't want to read book 8 till 9 is there. And I wouldn't want to finish 9 till 10 is there...
CUZ I HATE WAITING!

At the same time, I CANT GET ENOUGH!

I *suppose* I could read her little novellas, and anything else she had, while I wait...but damn, I hate waiting. :(

message 34: by Slip! (new)

Slip! | 89 comments Tess - I COULDNT AGREE MORE!!

message 35: by M. (new)

M. MacKinnon | 121 comments They don't call it "Droughtlander" for nuthin!

message 36: by Miss Melly (new)

Miss Melly | 34 comments What do you all think about the fact that Claire was told she would come fully into her powers when her hair was white?
I'm thinking that this might be addressed in book 9.
I'm hoping (sentimental fool that I am) that it will provide a way for Claire and Jamie to be together eternally. And maybe not have to be apart for the 20 years after Culloden! I still hate that :(

message 37: by Jacki Mohap (new)

Jacki Mohap (shereadinthesheshed) | 56 comments Did everyone see the title for Book 9?? Diana tweeted a Daily Line yesterday, with the title in the hashtags! -- Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone
Woohoo!!

message 38: by M. (new)

M. MacKinnon | 121 comments Saw it. Somewhat ominous.

message 39: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments It does sound ominous but does not sound like an Outlander title to me. It makes me think of Claire's bee hives on Frazer's Ridge and I wonder where she will be going. It is intriguing and as usual I cannot wait for the release date :)

message 40: by M. (new)

M. MacKinnon | 121 comments Each book...and each title....seems to get longer, lol.

message 41: by Miss Melly (new)

Miss Melly | 34 comments DG seems fairly confident that there will be a 10th book. I'm scared that Bees will end on a big cliffhanger and leave us on the edge for another three or four years! I dinna think I could bare it ;)

C (cherirnhealer) | 183 comments Can someone tell me where Diana posted that title for book 9? I went to her website and couldn't fnid it also to Compuserve. Thanks all

message 43: by Tessa (new)

Tessa Eversole (dearnabby) | 39 comments I seen it posted on her facebook page.

message 44: by Donna (last edited Jul 11, 2016 07:09AM) (new)

Donna Simmons (drspurdue) | 33 comments She has never given the title yet - she may listed humorous titles when she posts lines from book Nine on her Facebook page but the title will probably not be posted until the book is soon to be published. Look in the notes in left column of Diana's Facebook page - you will currently see the post for book eight.

I believe she mentioned on Facebook she is writing a book about Master Raymond.
Diana mentioned that she is always working on two or more books at a time; so when she has writers block on one she moved onto another.

message 46: by Tessa (new)

Tessa Eversole (dearnabby) | 39 comments Actually Donna she has posted the title for the 9th book. It is Go Tell the Bees that I am Gone. Herself posted it on the 4th of July at 6:27 am. She also posted a daily line with it and explained what the title meant. Its celtic folk lore that you tell the bees everything that been going on or they will leave.

message 47: by Donna (new)

Donna Simmons (drspurdue) | 33 comments Sorry, missed that - so used to herself using humorous hashtags title. Read the lines.
Hope, I was also wrong on when she posted the titles it was almost 3 years when she posted book 8th title till book published.
Thanks for the correction.

message 49: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 229 comments Diana posted on Twitter this morning that she will definitely be done writing this year but she has no control over publishing. 2020? Fingers crossed.

message 50: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Haggard | 2 comments When reading the earlier books, I thought I would be tortured to wait for book ten. Now that I am finishing book 8 and have book 9 to look forward to in a few months, I don't think I will be tortured. I appreciated that her writing has been qualitative and very involved. It must take a while to write all that.

Book 8 ends with looking for Benjamin Grey and questions as to where did Rodger's dad Jeremiah end up. He couldn't have went back to his own time.
