Airie sat at the edge of the pond near the fence that marked the border of her family’s land. She was a good distance away from the house, and could barely see the rooftop and smoking chimney from where she sat. The pond itself was clogged with weeds, but most of the fish inside had been given away to trainers. The only ones that remained were an ancient Goldeen and Seaking pair that had lived in the pond for as long as she could remember. They knew and trusted her, and felt free to swim in figure eights around her feet instead of hiding in the brush like they did when the trainers came to visit. Water-types were a rarity on the ranch, and Airie herself didn't even have one. The fish that circled her legs belonged to her parents when they were trainers and were much too old to battle. She would occasionally see the Goldeen let out a pitiful stream of bubbles, a remnant of what was once probably a very powerful move. She watched them circle around and around and wondered if they ever got bored of doing the same thing over and over. Just swimming endlessly around a glorified puddle for eternity. ‘It may seem tiresome, but they are probably just as afraid of leaving it behind as I am. They've been here so long, leaving must feel impossible.’She pulled her feet out of the water, startling the fish, and causing them to swim to the other side of the pond, then circle back toward her. she dried her feet on the grass, and then grabbed her shoes, not bothering to put them on before she started back towards the house. It was time to feed the Pokemon that the trainers had left, and her own were probably hungry as well. She let her feet sink into the soft earth that encompassed the entirety of their Pokemon ranch as she walked. The sky was clear, hardly dotted with a cloud, and flocks of bird Pokemon, they looked like pidgeys, flew in dense clusters overhead.
She reached the barn where the feed was kept and pushed the large doors open. She had to be careful not to make too much noise, as the family’s Ninetails was nursing her pups in a den she had dug inside one of the old Ponyta stalls. She was very protective, and Airie had gotten quite a few burns for getting too close. She threw a bag of Pokemon feed over her shoulder as quietly as she could and headed toward the daycare to feed the newly hatched Pokemon first, doing her best to pull the barn doors shut with her remaining hand and some help from her bare feet.
The daycare was the central playroom of their ranch, and was attached to the main office, sharing a single wall that had a long Plexiglas window about halfway up. Trainers could observe the baby Pokemon playing with each other from the entryway as they waited to deposit their Pokemon, or for herself or her mother to retrieve a Pokemon they had left earlier. As soon as she stepped in through the back door to the playroom, the gate around the door became surrounded with the infants, excited to see her, but even more excited at the idea of food. She greeted them all with a smile and a pat with her free hand and began the tedious task of filling up the three dozen or so food bowls and distributing them equally, making sure that no one Pokemon got more than the others, or took from a bowl that didn't belong to them.
ezekiel layed in the grass of a small pokemon habitat watching a group of bidoof playing as he took notes in his notebook. most of his pokemon were relaxing by a nearby pond, his bulbasaur lowering his vines in playing with a rather seasoned water type and his houndour curled up next to him with his head on his legs. he sighed smiling flipping the book shut as the bidoof scurried off. "alright everyone breaks over. lets get moving again" most of them scurried up to him except beldum who voiced his protest in his magnetic sound waves. "dont give me that you lazy bum" ezekiel scolded before it finally floated to him. "better." he said smirking. there was supposedly a rather well renowned ranch close by and he wanted to check it out to see if there were any rare pokemon he could study.
She sat and watched the infants for a while, thinking about how they looked so happy together, and what a shame it was that they would perhaps have to fight one another some day. She stood from where she sat on the floor, wiping her hands on her apron and pushing through the glass door into the main office. Her mother was sorting out paperwork, trying to organize which pokemon went where, a ritual she repeated every morning to make sure that everything was in its place and that no mistakes could be made as to what pokemon belonged to whom, even if they were the same type. They had a special tagging system for the pokemon, each one was given a collar with a serial number attached to it. The number matched the paperwork in the front office with the owner’s name on it, and a little beacon on the collars could allow her mother to see its exact location from a map on the main computer. This is where she or her dad came in. Once the pokemon’s general location was determined, they went out onto the ranch to find it, capture it in a daycare ball, and bring it back to the front. She had a little handheld device that could confirm the serial numbers at a distance, so she wouldn’t spook some of the more shy pokemon that got brought in.
When she saw her daughter, Airie’s mother motioned for her to come to the desk, “We’re running low on first aid supplies.” She handed Airie a pouch full of money, “Take this and pick up some things from the market. I need everything: antidotes, paralyze heals, burn heals, and oh, don’t forget to pick up a bag of treats for the little ones. We’re training them in basic moves today.” She went back to her paperwork and Airie stuffed the pouch into her pocket with a sigh. She was always running errands for her mother, she never asked her father to do them. Airie supposed this was her Mother's way of telling her she needed to get away from the ranch more often. She took off her apron and hung it on a hook behind the counter and slid over the top to the entry room, her shoes in her hand. She pulled them on as she stepped out the door and gave a high-pitched whistle.
A very serious looking medicham dropped down from the window above her. He fell to one knee and bowed his head at her as if she were some sort of master fighter, a ritual he repeated, though she couldn’t understand why. “We’re going into town for supplies, I need you to come with me to help with the bags.” He stood up and nodded his head, his sharp eyes looking serious. Airie stifled a laugh and pushed through the front gate, the medicham she called ‘Monk’ following at a short distance.
after about the 6th attempt of trying to sneak into ezekiel's backpack he finally got frustrated and put beldum in it's pokeball. after a time he sighed "we've been walking for a while maybe you guys should rest" he took out the rest of their pokeballs. most complied and returned, all except houndour who dodged the beam. "come on bud you have to be tired" the dark hound shook his head and barked his protest which made ezekiel sigh. "I promise I'll be OK" houndour stood in defiance at the pokeball. this continued for about half a minute before he finally shrugged. " well it is your choice let's get going". houndour barked and wagged his tail jumping a bit to keep up with him. after about another half hour of walking he saw two figures walking closer one a girl and the other a Pokémon "come on bud maybe they know where the ranch is" he started running to the girl with his pup close behind
