Yes hopefully soon! I am planning a team (?) bingo type reading challenge but still working out the details. I've been wanting to do some group challenges but kind of holding off until the group got a little bigger.

If you have any suggestions we would be glad to hear them!

Hailey Sawyer Hi there. I'd like to make a suggestion. I think a General Discussion thread or section should be added to the discussion board.

Sounds good! You mean like a chat thread? I will make one right now

message 9: by sahrai (new)

sahrai (sarahmirzayee) I have a suggestion to make. So for BOTM’s we can do like a competition week the last week of the month where we can have activities related to the book like trivia or character battles where we try to prove who the best character is or a meme challenge where you can create memes and at the end of the week we list the winners for each challenge and their prize can be maybe like that they get to choose a book that will be in the poll for the next BOTM or something like that. Just small activities to make things more fun and exciting.

Ooo that a really good idea! I like that.
Since you are already a moderator if you want to lead the competition week this month (or more) you can. Let me know.

message 13: by Monique (new)

Monique S. (monique1109) Hi,

I'd like to point all you aspiring authors to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), that is more like INoWriMo (international) since there are several different language groups there now.

I wrote several short stories and one now published novel during the 2017/2018 and 2019 NaNos and it was fun with the various Writing Buddies I made there and a challenge to get 50K words written in a month (November). There are also several Discord chats around NaNoWriMo.

It is for all and any age groups, romantinc orientation, gender, topic, you name it, you'll find it there. I really recommend giving it a go.

Monique.

KM Abiduzzaman I have 3 suggestions

(1) Can we do something like monthly meeting? we will fix a date and time on which we all will just chat; talk about everything from our studies to vacations, music to movies...( A thread devoted to chatting can't serve the purpose cause it can't ensure everyone's presence)

(2) Is a thread only for jokes possible? As we come from different culture, there is an opportunity to share and taste different jokes ( obviously we shouldn't share dirty jokes)

(3) This suggestion is for games. The idea is we will create a fictional sentence like-
person1: Today I have visited the boundary of the space.
person2: I have 2 lives- one is when I am awake and the other is when I sleep.
...
Can we do this?

Those all seem like good suggestions! I definitely approve the 2nd and 3rd ones, and will talk the first one over with the other mods.

If you want to make a game thread for the third one, go ahead! Since it's your idea, it would probably be easier for you to explain it and start it anyway.
I will go ahead and make a thread for jokes.

Also what type of chats/meetings do you mean? (like how would it work exactly and would it be on a thread devoted to that? )

Okay.
First of all, I don't mean zoom meeting.
so, what do I mean? It's more like a physical book club. What actually we do in a book club? we meet on a regular basis, share our thoughts and thus have fun, right? Thus we make a connection to other readers.

My idea is that we will fix a certain date say at 18 GMT on 25 of every month when we all will in the group and talk to each other and have fun ( not video calls just texts)
I especially want this to make every active member truly connected to each other, this is so much important for a group.

And what I want to mean by saying that a typical chatting thread can't serve the purpose, is a random chatting thread can't ensure everyone's presence, can they?
You need to tell everyone if you really want an engaging meeting.

Ok so I am going to put out a poll asking how many people want to do it/would participate in the meeting, then I will put out another one asking about times and dates and all.
I'm going to explain it on the poll the best I can, but if you want me to change anything in the description or add any other details in the comments, just let me know.

KM Abiduzzaman May challenge week idea:

1. Cover design.
2. 100 words book review.
3. Depicting emotion/state of the characters by poems/musics.

message 27: by KM Abiduzzaman (new)

KM Abiduzzaman An idea has just popped up in my head. So, the idea is-
Arrange a quiz competition by using the poll. You will create polls asking some questions on BOTM ( like MCQ test). The person(s) who can give most correct answers will win.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this- I think this is a really cool idea! I'll talk it over with the mods and arrange something

(also I'll send your challenge week ideas to Sarah)

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm All Booked Up wrote: "We really like the BOTM trivia idea from earlier. We hope it happens!"

We are kinda doing trivia within our challenge weeks, which are a week of different challenges (including a trivia quiz) about the BOTM run by our mod Sarah! It's super fun to participate in if you have read the BOTM.
If you have another idea for a different type of trivia- maybe a team trivia challenge covering a variety of different YA books or something- we would be happy to hear it and discuss!

Violet (Decently_Good_Reader1) (promecool) | 119 comments I think a month long readathon for the month of December would be fun and all the books read have to be Christmas/Winter themed and Christmas/winter related prompts.

Good idea! Something similar to our October readathon from this month?

Top YA Dystopian Books of ALL TIME

I've already added a bunch of my favorites, but I'd love recommendations and/or more added to the list! Let me know if you have ideas!

Thanks!!!

PS. If this is the wrong place to post this, please let me know and I'll move it to another section. Thanks!

Domitylle (can only update books rn. sorry) (dom_brlw) | 106 comments For the Challenge of the Month, we could maybe do a Catch-up month or Purge TBR month:
- we would take books that have been on our TBR for quite some time now and finally read them :)
- we could set a goal (ex: "I'm going to read 3 TBR's this month" and they would have to read 3 books or more from their TBR)

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooo yes I like that idea! We have a challenge planned for December, so maybe that could be in January as like a New Year's Resolution type thing?

Abby (theavidbookworm1) | 12 comments I have an idea that we could all collaborate as a group to pick a favorite character from a familiar series and create a reading list/challenge based on books that the character would read. Let me know if anyone enjoys this idea and if we should begin to create this group project!

Oh that's an awesome idea! I've never done that before! So how do you think we should pick the character? Do you wanna put out like a poll with some of the most popular characters from series? We could do more than one as well.

Abby (theavidbookworm1) | 12 comments Natalie wrote: "Abby wrote: "I have an idea that we could all collaborate as a group to pick a favorite character from a familiar series and create a reading list/challenge based on books that the character would ..."

I think that a poll would be a great way to start! That way we can have write-ins and all group members can choose which well-known characters they would want to contribute to making a reading list for.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok cool! Hmmm so I could either make a short list of some characters as a like starting point , or just leave every spot blank so that it is completely up to the group? What do you think?

message 40: by Abby (new)

Abby (theavidbookworm1) | 12 comments Whatever works! If you want to include some popular ones to begin with, like Hermoine Granger, just so everyone can get an idea I think that would be good.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Okey dokey I'll make a poll later today with some random popular characters

oooh i like this idea! we usually have big group readathons a couple times a year as well and they seem to be really popular so i think people will really enjoy this? could you maybe go into detail about how this would work? like would this be like a full-time readathon? and would it be for all books or would maybe we could do different readthons for deferent genres? Let me know and i'll set it up asap!
