I've been watching the Constantine reboot, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. However, I haven't read the comics, so I have no idea if they're getting it right. Any opinions out there?

I've only seen the pilot but I reckon it was acceptable. Aside from being in America, obviously. At least John wasn't Keanu Reeves and was British, and they made reference to the Newcastle incident that pretty much defined him as a character. I think it has possibilities.
Constantine totally delivered this past Saturday. A story with some actual meat on it, moral ambiguity and gray zones galore.
I really like the show, and I agree with John, at least it wasn't Keanu. I really like the actor on this show.

I've liked the show, and I'll probably keep watching, but I felt like they made John a little too relatable. In the comics, he is a fair amount . . . I don't know if "darker" is the right world. He's got a sense of humor in the comics, but there is enough wrong with him that you don't really want to go have a beer with the guy most of the time. It was kind of typical TV whitewashing, he's the hero so he has to be a hero even if he is sort of a jerk. I understand it's necessary if NBC want to be able to pair it with Grimm in prime-time, but I'd have liked to see the true bastard from the comics.
I like the show. I haven't read the comic so I have no comparison to that. I thought the Papa Midnight character was interesting.
The show is okay so far to me. I will keep watching it but it's probably my least favorite that were new this year out of the comic types.
That's not flat out impossible, but it'd be almost unprecedented. Constantine produced their initial thirteen episodes, then no order was placed for the back nine episodes of the season. For a rookie show, that's defacto cancellation. I did a little searching trying to find the last show that didn't get it's full order but stayed on the air for a second season, and I couldn't find an example (with the exception of a couple shows during the writers strike). I'm sure one exists, but definitely not recently. It's ratings would barely justify a place on Syfy now, and that was prime time, on a network, with solid lead ins. NBC is going to be working on the assumption that there would be another significant drop in viewership following a move to cable.
The show's budget is also built around expected network level ratings. Syfy has lost more than one of their top rated shows, not because they couldn't draw expected, or even exceptional ratings for cable, but because they were just too expensive. I'm not in their accounting department, they may be putting it together on the cheap in some way I'm not aware of, but realistically the show is almost certainly too expensive to produce for a cable network.
*claps dust off hands* "My work is done here, time to unnecessarily dash hopes elsewhere."
lol Jeffrey, well, when you put it all that way....I'm assuming it probably won't move then. I keep hearing it may from a friend who likes the show, but I share your outlook that it likely won't happen.
Jeffrey, you make some good points. I'm not sure if you've seen this (http://www.ew.com/article/2014/10/28/...) article though. It's very informative, about Syfy's "new path", which to me seems like there might be hope for them to pick up Constantine and do it with the necessary budget. I really hope it's not over, never to be seen again. I feel like the NBC show took too long to get a storyline established. This show has so much potential if you're prepared to jump into an arching story, instead of doing 45 minute Law & Order supernatural episodes that wrap up nice and neat every week.
