All of the books I've put so far on the list are part of my personal library. I'll have to search for the rest of the eligible books elsewhere.
If you want a good read for Macedonia you could try Alexander Child of a dream by Manfredi, it’s about Alexander’s birth to Philip of Macedonia in Macedonia I enjoyed it I st of a trilogy. Interested in your one for Croatia I couldn’t find one when I went there recently Although I’m sure I read a Roman murder mystery set in Diocletian’s palace in Split years ago
If you need recommendation about Croatia, just ask me. I'm Croatian and I'm also a tour guide in my country which requires A LOT of reading. :DThanks for the recommendation. :)
Croatian guides are so knowledgeable! Our guide to Krka park had a degree in the History of Art (and potentially also the Hadjuk football team!). We had a great tour and I really enjoyed the ethnological village museum there. The story of the baby booties and socks for friends was particularly fascinating.I'll try your AD 1202 novel suggestion.
Hahahaha...yeah, living in Dalmatia, you have to be knowledgeable about Hajduk. otherwise you are not Dalmatian (especially if you are a man). :D We have a saying here that football is the second most important thing in the life of a Croatian man. The first one is a mystery. :D :DGuides in Croatia come from every field of expertise because getting the license is not part of the formal education, that is, not only the students of Tourism are eligible. Plus, we get an extensive general knowledge in our schools.
Anyways, I really recommend AD 1202 because this particular moment in the history of the Crusades is not really talked about that much. It's a reread for me and I really liked it the first time.
I would also like to recommend to you the first Croatian historical novel, The Goldsmith's Treasure by August Šenoa, that takes place in 16th century Zagreb.

What a great list you have! I have been to Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro as well. I must say your country is beautiful, and people so friendly! I would appreciate a recommendation on a book which spans the time period when Croats joined others to form the erstwhile Yugoslavia. Hopefully we have such books translated in English? Thanks ! And I have added AD 1202 to my list.

Thank you, Sunita! :)
Do the books have to be Fiction or Nonfiction or both? Written by local authors or foreign, too?
I haven't yet read her, but I know that Slavenka Drakulić has her works translated to English. Try also Miljenko Jergović, a Bosnian Croat from Sarajevo.I'll have to research a bit more. I'll let you know if I find something good.
