Now that we are a little way into the book I was curious about everyone's favorite character(s). I asked about this in the introductions for those of us who had read the series before. After finishing this week's reading has your favorite character changed? Are any others making a play for the top spot? Is it too early to say?

For those of us who have never read the books does any character stand out as a potential favorite at this point? Still too early to say?

D.P. Woolliscroft | 12 comments Early favorite in the reread for me is Tas. I love his excitement and lack of fear.

But I feel really bad for Flint. He just comes across a bumbling, clumsy, grumpy old fart. We need some Flint awesomeness soon.

Lisa (waytoofantasy) | 22 comments I have always loved Raistlin with because he is the least black and white and has an air of mystery and angst about him too. Funny because when I read this when I was 14 he seemed so old and now I'm like 'he's only 25?!?!?!' hahahahaha.

I also always loved Tasselhoff, he'sjust such a fun character.

On this reread I am really enjoying Tanis. Even though he is a bit emo mooning over missed opportunities for romance. :)

D.P. Woolliscroft | 12 comments Yes. I’ve always lived Tanis. He’s the man with a plan. Or at least making it up as he goes. And Katara is such a mystery right now. By the way, not sure if you’ve got there yet but Tanis gives Goldmoon a neck message when Riverwind goes off to stand watch or something. Might be overstepping there Tanis

I honestly forgot how much I liked Tas. As a kid I always thought he was the fun character and I loved that about him. But I have to say reading that scene where he met up with Tanis and Flint and the goblins...he was a little badass! Something that I never noticed before was the image of Tas without a weapon drawn staring down the goblin and "without ever losing the innocent, childlike expression on his face" throws a dagger and kills him. That no fear characteristic of the Kender makes a really cool character.

I liked Tanis as a kid too. I liked the leader of the group. But I'm noticing now just how brooding he is. the emo comment made me chuckle Lisa.

But Raist...still my favorite. But I wonder if that is because of what I learned about him as the books and series go on. I was trying to imagine his appearance in the Inn and how freaky that must be with those hourglass eyes and gold skin. Also what would it look like to see through his eyes?

Mary Drover (marydrover) | 10 comments Raistlin is still definitely my favorite; he’s such a little creeper, and it makes me laugh. But I, too, had forgotten just how great Tas is! That moments when he just calmly whips out a dagger is the best. He seems so childlike one second, and then bam battle kender, before he’s suddenly back to normal. It’s awesome!

I love Tas and Flint’s relationship so much, too. They never fail to make me laugh!

Karen Anderson (k1219) | 5 comments I liked Tanis better before! Lisa is spot on with him being emo. But I, too, liked him as the leader and making decisions.

Raistlin is still my favorite.

Paul | 17 comments Sturm has a good backstory early on. I think we have to wait for the authors to reveal most of the other characters’ backstories. He’s the one I hadn’t remembered a lot about from when i read this the first time.

WS_BOOKCLUB (wittyandsarcasticbookclub) | 43 comments Raistlin is still my favorite. lt cracks me up how he uses to make his changed appearance to make people uncomfortable. He's so smart, but can be such a dick.
I'm enjoying Tas more this time through.

Lisa (waytoofantasy) | 22 comments Paul, for some reason I also kind of forgot about Sturm. How? I don't know. Hope he leaves more of an impression on me this time around. :)

Genre Book Reviews | 10 comments I love Sturm. I’ve always loved fantasy for the knights in shining Armor that always do right. That is Sturm to a fault. “My word is my honor My honor is life.” Sturm doesn’t really come into his own until the second book. But I love the code of honor that he lives by and how nothing can get him to betray that.

Tamara | 9 comments Early possibility for favorite is Tanis. But we’ll see. Raistlin intrigued me from the get go and he’s a fave of so many.....

I'm behind on my reading, but I just read that description of Tas yesterday and remembered why I loved him as a teenager. I had to read that whole part aloud to my teenagers, who weren't as enthused as I was. Part of it is the memories involved, but also... it's somehow refreshing to pick up a book that's just trying to stuff as many cool, fun fantasy "things" as it can into the story. You can almost sense the fun that Weis and Hickman must have been having as they came up with it.

Kyrilson | 5 comments Still and always will be Raistlin! I remember when I first read this, how intrigued I was with the mystery around him, and how he wasn't the classic "good" character. I've always liked shades of grey in my characters, and I think Raistlin may have been the first time I encountered it when I first read this many years ago.

I also like Tas and Flint. There is some fun interplay between the two characters. Tanis seems a bit... overwrought, I guess is the word.

Tamara | 9 comments Just changed my mind on my early favorite - it’s Tas. He has MAPS! And I love maps. Still pick them up whenever I can. Have a bin full of them. So yeah, Tas is my favorite. (Until it changes again)

Yes, I'd forgotten about his maps. I also love maps and have a bunch of them. I just got the latest rand-mcnally atlas, too. *pushes nerd glasses up*
