Lisa (waytoofantasy) | 22 comments One of the first things that struck me upon reread is how Solace is all wooden cabins built in trees. That is a lot of wood. And they're using fire to cook and heat their homes? How? How are they not catching on fire?!?! Okay, magic, sure. But still, when that guy becomes a human torch in the Inn, I was worried. Solace must have a heck of a fire brigade. ;)

Aside from that I love the idea of a village made of tree houses. How cool!

What things about the world are standing out to anyone else?

Lisa I thought we settled this...it's magic AND science. (inside joke...sorry to the rest of you)

I admit I had the same thought about a kitchen and fireplace in the trees. I was trying to figure out how high the chimney must go to keep sparks from setting the leaves on fire in the fall.

But yeah, Solace is a really cool fantasy town/village. It does remind me a little of the Ewok village...isn't that up in the trees? Did they have fireplaces though?

Lisa (waytoofantasy) | 22 comments Hah! It does remind me a bit of the Ewok village, I don't remember about their fires though. I seem to recall a campfire set on the ground at the end of RotJ iirc?

Genre Book Reviews | 10 comments Also at the beginning doesn’t Otik have to run into the kitchen cause of a grease fire? And it says something like “the grease has caught fire again”. As if this is something that happens all the time. Obviously there is nobody to enforce fire safety codes in Solace.

WS_BOOKCLUB (wittyandsarcasticbookclub) | 43 comments I tell you what, though: The Inn of the Last Home is one of those fictional places that I want to visit. Everyone says Hogwarts when asked what fictional place they'd like to see, and I'm over here dreaming of spiced potatoes. Ha ha ha!

Lisa (waytoofantasy) | 22 comments I love The Inn of the Last Home! Fantasy Inns in general, I'm into them, especially the more homey types.

Tamara | 9 comments I really thought the whole place was going to go up in flames when the Theocrat fell into the fire and then flailed around. Gay really would have started the book with a bang!
