We want you to feel like part of the Friends of KA community! So introduce yourself here. If you want to give your KA Discord name, that's fine too.

(If you are not a KA Patreon supporter, with access to the Discord chat, you can go here to support them: https://www.patreon.com/kittenacademy. Even $1/month will help kittens, and give you access to the very active Discord KA chat community!)

Hi! I'm Mary, from CMLE (the moderator!), and I'm geohiker on Discord.

Welcome to the challenge everyone! I hope you enjoy reading some fun books this year, and that you are inspired to try some new books. Share your suggestions with the community, so we can all try some new books this year!

message 3: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (mswarning) | 4 comments I'm mswarning on Discord. I used to work at a library that did summer reading with challenges like this. :)

message 4: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 1 comments Hi all! I am MangoMom on discord. I love reading fiction, especially mysteries.

message 5: by Karen (new)

Karen | 11 comments I'm Karen, otherwise known as Lilycat. Looking forward to trying the challenge!

message 6: by Margot (new)

Margot | 2 comments I'm quietime on Discord. I'm reading almost all the time I'm not working or sleeping! I love learning and read a lot of nonfi and history. I also enjoy mysteries (but not really violent ones). I like fiction but am not a fan of fantasy and sci-fi. I look forward to this group reading challenge!

Margot | 2 comments Is there a way to edit a post? In my post introducing myself, I somehow did not finish the word "non-fiction."

While I'm asking this kind of question, is there a way to delete a post?

message 8: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 3 comments Hi! I'm Hannah! (hannahffg on Discord). I love the idea of reading. When i was a kid, i read all the time! Now i've gotten out of the habit and i want to get back INTO the habit of reading! My goal for 2019 was to read 12 books. I'm at 9 now, so I still have 3 to go. i think I can do it :)

Sure Margot - click on your message, and then under it you can see some links: reply, edit, delete. So you can edit or delete anything! :)

Yay!!! We have confidence in you!!!

Let me know if you want some novellas, or some shorter books suggestions. Or, try some YA books! There are a lot of really good ones, and they tend to be shorter.

Length does not = Quality; it only matters if you enjoyed the book!

aazeris | 1 comments Hello everyone! This is aazeris on discord. I have not been reading as much as I want to and I’m hoping this will help me get back into it! Looking forward to reading with everyone!

message 12: by Mary (new)

Mary | 17 comments This is Mary (geohiker on Discord), appearing as "me" instead of "moderator" role. It's easier to share the books I'm reading as "me" instead of in my work account that is running the challenge!

Looking forward to a lot of nice reading, and hearing about everyone's books!

message 13: by Kiki (new)

Kiki (kikimeowmom) | 4 comments Hi! My secret crazy cat lady identity is KikiMeowMom. I ended up being an accountant with an accounting degree, but in my heart I am still the dorky English major who started college many, many, many moons ago. I just finished a career related Graduate Program and would like to read something, anything, besides tax law now. NOW. I have always loved to read, and am looking forward to this. I have not ever done a reading challenge before, or used Goodreads. So, I am already learning a lot!

message 14: by Perry (new)

Perry (perryjbrulotte) | 2 comments I am me. Not someone else. You can guess who I am on Discord easily enough. not a lot of people with my name. it's unique. uncommon.

(Sorry, just read the latest Reacher book by Childs and am obviously channeling the style.)

message 15: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee | 2 comments Hello all!
I do 'read' audio books quite a bit. I have not been reading to many other books due to a few issues with getting them from my library to my ereader...and then just being lazy and not wanting late fees on the dead-tree books. Anyhow...I read lots of stuff, use to be only fiction but have gone into some 'self improvement' and non fiction lately. I especially love long series.

Liz Johnson | 1 comments Hi, I am Liz, and I think I am Liz J on Discord.

message 18: by luvthosebooks (new)

luvthosebooks | 1 comments My username says it all! I’ve been an avid reader my entire life. I was a high school English teacher until about 6 years ago. Then, I became at stay-at-home mom to focus on my children (two of them have autism).

My favourite genre is Historical Fiction. I prefer a well-researched novel that helps me get to know historical characters or events in a deeper way.

I can’t believe I never joined Goodreads before. I read so much, it would be impossible for me to go back and list all my “read” books!

This is the first reading challenge I’ve ever done, so I’m a bit nervous, but excited, too! I’m hoping this will help me find new authors and genres to enjoy.

I’m also luvthosebooks on Discord. I’m mostly a lurker, but I read everything in Strictly and Alumni Spam (usually hours after the fact, when I get a minute to myself). I love KA. The community is wonderful. I stumbled upon the live stream the night Pummy gave birth, and I’ve been hooked ever since. :)

message 19: by Pauline (new)

Pauline | 3 comments I'm Pauline on Discord. I used to read a lot, but not so much now so a group like this is just what I need for encouragement and ideas. I usually find books by reading reviews in The Times, or in magazines. And through friends' recommendations. All time favourite authors still writing are Ian Rankin, John Le Carre and James Oswald. From the past, Dorothy L Sayers and PD James. Looking forward this year to the publication of Hilary Mantel's final part of the Wolf Hall books about Thomas Cromwell.

message 20: by Kiki (new)

Kiki (kikimeowmom) | 4 comments So, never having done this before: questions. Do we talk to each other about the books? If yes, where? Also, there are some great books I have read in the past that fit some of the prompts. Is it OK to recommend them in the comments for the prompt for other people who may be interested? Oh, and holy crap. The librarian just taught me how to borrow audiobooks, so now I can “read” at work. This is super fun stuff! How did I never do this before?

Great! We love book questions! :)

- We can set up any number of discussion areas you guys want; at the moment, we anticipate discussion focused on the individual prompts. Click on a prompt, giggle to yourself if it sparks happy memories of kittens, then find a book that meets the prompt.

This is the first challenge we've done exactly like this, so it's a work in progress. We can easily make changes as we go along - let us know about things you would like to see and we'll try to make it happen.

- As we go along, there will be more people sharing book ideas and books they have read. So yes: add as many books as you want for prompts! We will all appreciate having some ideas as we search for good books.

- Congratulations on getting audio-books!!!!! I loooove reading audio-books, and definitely enjoy listening while I'm cleaning, walking, doing tedious work, etc. I'm so glad the library was helpful to you!

If you, or anyone, has questions that are complicated or potentially unrelated to the challenge, feel free to drop me an email at admin @ cmle.org. (No spaces in the email!)

This all sounds good! And Pummy was my first live birth, and remains my favorite momcat!! (I onioned when she went off to live with her two babies, and get really excited whenever I see their pictures in Alumni!)

Mrs. Dubose (mrsdubose) | 1 comments Hi, I’m Mrs. Dubose on Discord. I just joined last Saturday so I’m brand new there, but I’ve been watching the KA livestream since the Mewnits. (Dalton will always be one of my faves!) I adored reading as a kid, was an English major in college, but now work in finance so I’m always looking for ways to keep the literary side of my brain active! I’m looking forward to getting some fresh book recommendations!

message 24: by Andy (new)

Andy (andyfluke) Hi everyone! "GentlemanMouser" from the Discord here. I tend to read everything put in front of me and have a special interest in the writings of Nobel laureates (in literature). I currently work as a freelance editor and publication designer, and have a background in education. I love GoodReads but am so horrible at staying up to date. If my Kindle wasn't synced to the site, it would look like I didn't read anything at all. Oh, and my fave at KA is Maggie (I joined the Discord during the "time of the trees").

message 25: by Pauline (new)

Pauline | 3 comments just wanted to say Hi and welcome. I've never seen you on the chat. There are so many of us. I used to read a lot but lately not so much so I hope this challenge will encourage me.
