Beth I'm just going to suggest authors. Since these are "classic" authors, many of the books are still in print--or at least, can still be found without a lot of work (many even in ebook format).
Andre Norton
Robert A. Heinlein
Lloyd Alexander
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Isaac Asimov
I'm sure of these 5 authors still being available, at any rate. And, with changing education, morals and even the internet, some of the authors that used to be considered adult can now be happily read by kids. And even though most of his works were more adult, Asimov did a great series of kids books (which can be read as stand alones or as a series) about a little robot named Norby. Many he wrote with his wife Janet Asimov.
And I'm going to say--I totally agree with many of Feliks suggestions.

The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander. First in the Chronicles of Prydain, which I enjoyed far more than the Lord of the Rings. The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death by Daniel Pinkwater. A tale of mystery, classic movies and innocent orangutans lured into a life of crime. Among other things. Really, any of Pinkwater's YA stuff is pure gold.
The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet by Eleanor Cameron. I haven't read it myself, but it's highly regarded by people whose opinion I respect. Might skew a little younger than you're looking for, though.
The Undersea Trilogy by Frederick Pohl. A group of friends have adventures under the sea. I loved them as a kid but don't remember many details.
Some of these may link to later editions, but all were originally published before 1980 or thereabouts. The Hobbit
The Power of Stars
This Star Shall Abide (2 other books in series but can be read standalone)
House of Stairs
The Girl Who Owned a City
Enchantress from the Stars
The Dark Is Rising (4 other books in series but can be read standalone)
A Wizard of Earthsea (3-4 other books in series but can be read standalone)
Anything by Edward Eager; my favorite is Half Magic (like the Oz books, many feature the same characters but all are standalone)
The Weirdstone of Brisingamen
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
The Book of Live Dolls (this one is definitely out of print, but so charming and sweet that I couldn't leave it out -- the dolls of all the little girls in one small town come to life)
The Whispering Mountain
The Princess and the Goblin
Tuck Everlasting
Bridge to Terabithia
The Little BroomstickSaturday, the Twelfth of October
The Last Unicorn
Given the books you've listed, I assume you've already read The Chronicles of Narnia starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe -- if not, then those, of course :)
I am not sure what you mean by "do not suggest books that are out of print" since anything published before 1980 is likely to be out of print. But there are so many easy and cheap places to get used copies (Amazon, abebooks.com, etc.) that "out of print" really doesn't mean much any more.
Also, in agreement with Michele, I personally buy all my books on Amazon and have found many versions of every book I've ever looked for. I actually found many classics that I never would have otherwise by purchasing them on Amazon.
Not sure if it is considered a classic, might not be popular/old enough but I enjoyed it: Winter of Fire.
Hello Summer, Goodbye - 1975 probably the best YA SF story I've ever read, aka 'Rax'.Rite of Passage - 1968 modern reprint
