We encounter a new race this week. The Gully Dwarves. Bupu stands out given her relationship with Raistlin. There's also Phudge I. Any thoughts on them and how they're presented? Their role in the story? What about their fate after Xak Tsaroth floods?

Genre Book Reviews | 10 comments The Gully Dwarves remind me of Jawas. Funny little creatures that always seem to be underfoot. But Bupu is a very important character. She brings out a part of Raistlin that we haven’t seen yet. Raistlin comes off as an arrogant power hungry wizard, but with Bupu we see a caring compassionate side of him. Love the farewell between them when she kisses his hand and he places what seems like a blessing on her to keep her safe. Brought tears to my eyes.

Lisa (waytoofantasy) | 22 comments The Gully Dwarves were interesting! I loved the scene with the secret knock, I laughed lol. I love that they weren't just comedic fodder though. Bupu's character was great and did a lot to show how they could be brave and also the leader was quite different as well. I'm glad there was some variation and they weren't all painted with the same brushstroke. I also loved the farewell scene.

D.P. Woolliscroft | 12 comments I love Bupu. And it was interesting to realize just how important Bupu is to Raistlin's future. Pay attention to the book she gave him! it's also great to see how Bupu brings out a different side in Raistlin. if it wasn't for the kindness he shows her then i think he would be a lot less relatable character.

Calvin Park | 16 comments I agree with what everyone has said here. Bupu is great. She definitely humanizes Raistlin, though I think there can be no doubt that at this point he is absolutely an arrogant power hungry wizard. Though, interestingly, perhaps one with a soft spot for the weak.

His Majesty Phudge I, The Great strikes me as sort of laughably (tragically?) inept.

I agree with everyone on Bupu. She really helps to bring out some of the complexity of Raistlin's character and shows he's not one dimensional. I also really liked that she was made a little more complex too, not just comic relief. But there were definitely entertaining moments like the knocking on the door scene. I was sad however at the realization that so many of them would have died when the city flooded, caught up in actions of others (the companions and the Khisanth/Draconians). They are like many peoples in warzones who never asked for the conflict to come to their shores and who end of suffering when squeezed between two warring parties.

Paul | 17 comments Ok... I’m a week behind and just got caught up to week 2. Will try ti get caught up this week.
Bupu: It all came back to me when I got to this section. Tas calls her out on the hidden switch, but she gives him what for! And I like what she does to Raislin’s character.
