There was a Star Trek Voyager: Starfleet Academy 3 book series and a Star Trek: Starfleet Academy 3 books series written for junior high age level (12 year olds) back in the late 90s. I bought it from Amazon at the time. Despite the age it was directed to, I enjoyed the backstory of young Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Janeway...Nova Command is book 9 of the STNG: Starfleet Academy. There were at least 14. I don't recall getting these, so I am not sure.
The above series were written by the same authors or authors who had written novels in the Star Trek universe.

There was also a 4 book series based on the new movie versions of Kirk which was geared towards YA and adults. Don't know if I got these either. Those authors I am unfamiliar with.

Now I will have to look and decide whether I want to update my collection with these last 2.
Just read Breakaway, number 12 in the TNG Starfleet Academy series. It's about Deanna Troi, and pretty good.
I read a lot of YA oriented books. I don't care about who they are written for; I care what they are about. Be it Star Trek or other subgenres of sci fi.I just can't afford to keep up with all the new ones in all the series, so I limited myself to Original, Voyager, and Enterprise. It always has felt like there are a lot more fans of TNG, that they will keep producing books without my support.
My daughter used to attend Star Trek conventions with me, from about ages 11 to 16, when I went to quite a few. She would have really liked the Starfleet Academy books in all the series.
Read a couple more, not so good :Capture the Flag Geordi La Forge is the main character.
Loyalties,with Beverly Crusher.
