27 - A book featuring one of the seven deadly sins
Would any (or maybe all ) Shakespeare books work? I am trying to read one a year.....so would love to slot in this prompt

I've read a couple reviews that say Bardugo's Ninth House has greed as a major theme. I can't confirm though, as I haven't read it yet!
A Confederacy of Dunces--sloth and gluttony
East of Eden--lots of Biblical themes
Most mystery novels would probably work, as would true crime, since these are frequently the motives for crimes.

I'll toss Pride and Prejudice into the universe just because it's my perennial favorite. Pride, also. Read it just last year. Ayesha at Last is another great P&P re-telling - highly recommend!A Woman Is No Man deals with the consequences of wrath, also envy and pride
Things Fall Apart - pride
Anything about Henry VIII and/or his wives would fit many of these categories. Alison Weir and Philippa Gregory's novels take into account lust, greed, pride ...
Jane Eyre & Mr. Rochester - lust, pride
Then She Was Gone - greed, envy
What Was She Thinking? Notes on a Scandal - lust
I want to read Rich People Problems, the last book in the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy: based on the previous books, I'm sure that greed and envy are likely to feature (and probably most of the other sins too!)
Johanna wrote: "I wonder if this kind of sloth would work for the prompt?
"For sure it would! Especially since it seems the book is not about the animal, but about embracing "sloth" or laziness as a virtue.
I am reading The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and GirlsThe Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls
Monica wrote: "Pretty much any romance novel would work for this, right?"I would certainly think so.
I can think of a possible murder scenario for any of the seven deadly sins so it will be a murder mystery for me. They are called the ~deadly~ sins after all!
I'm trying to fit Lethal White into this challenge. Can anyone tell me if it might fit this prompt? I assume it might because there's usually a murder and the motive tends to be one of the seven deadly sins.
Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi AdeyemiWith Vengeance in the title it should feature wrath.
I'm also tempted to read a sloth book:Sloths: A Celebration of the World’s Most Misunderstood Mammal
If you want a sampling, Star Trek has a book called Seven Deadly Sins where each of the seven sins is represented by a different alien race.
There are several series that seem to have one book for each of the seven deadly sins, it looks like. I think my choice is going to be Envy of Angels, from the "Sin du Jour" series (about a restaurant that caters to devils).
Jessica wrote: "I've read a couple reviews that say Bardugo's Ninth House has greed as a major theme. I can't confirm though, as I haven't read it yet!"Based on reading the cover excerpt I’d think it relates. I’m gonna give it a go, that’s been on my list for a while!

There's a new series by Cheryl Bradshaw (a spinn off of her Sloane Malone series) that fits this prompt perfectly. The first in series is Deadly Sins: Sloth - the books are novella length.I expect one of my mystery/thrillers will have greed as reason for the crime so I'll let myself surprise which will be the first I like and I can fit here.
If you want to read something where the sins take the form of characters, you could check out the Fullmetal Alchemist manga by Hiromu Arakawa. I'm not sure which volume introduces the Seven Deadly Sins though.
I think I am going to go with the sin of envy and read Tove Jansson's The True Deceiver for this prompt. I love her sensitivity and perspective and Scandinavian settings, but it will be interesting to read something a little darker by her. I hadn't even heard of this book before trying to fill out my challenge list, and I'm so excited for it now!
The Divine Comedy features all of them:It is a trilogy:
Purgatorio, Inferno, and Paradiso.
Purgatorio directly deals with each.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue seems like it was made for this prompt, so I'm going to use that.
Rose wrote: "Would any (or maybe all ) Shakespeare books work? I am trying to read one a year.....so would love to slot in this prompt"The Taming of the Shrew is all about wrath.
I'm going to read The Ghosts of Eden Park, themes of greed (bootlegging during Prohibition) and lust (the bootlegger's wife has an affair with the federal investigator).
Seven Ways We Lie looks to have all seven sins represented. It's been on my tbr for awhile, so I think I'm going with that one.
After much deliberation and overthinking how to interpret this prompt, I've decided to read If We Were Villains by ML Rio. I read a review with character summaries and trigger warnings that made me think this might work for a couple different deadly sins.
Greed is a major motivator for many murderers in Agatha Christie's detective novels, so if you enjoy those, at least one in three will work^^

Very cute! You made me laugh! ;)

Oooohhh, yes! Excellent choice! Definitely fits for greed and is such an excellent read!

I’m really struggling with this one. I guess the whole point is to push you out of your comfort zone, but none of the suggestions appeal to me so far. Maybe some Margo Lanagan? Her only novel is The Brides of Rollrock Island or whatever it’s called now. If anyone knows any good books for sloth, let me know.A decent fantasy read would be good for this prompt. Something based on mythology.
I’d add The Secret History (sloth and probably pride), but I’ve read it about a hundred times.

To varying degrees, admittedly (gluttony isn't a big feature) - but it very definitely fits the prompt.
