Quinn shuffled down the empty sidewalk, eyes staring at the ground blearily. It was an early Saturday morning, but not too early that the library was closed. Quinn shivered and pulled his jacket tighter around himself. The clouds that hung above him were fluffy and white. Snow fell and settled on the tops of trees and buildings. As beautiful as it might have looked, Quinn wanted to get inside where it was warm.

Quinn finally neared his destination. Coming up at the entrance of the large library, he pulled open one of the double doors and took a step inside. Thank God for indoor heating. Warmth enveloped him instantly, and he gladly accepted it. The library was quiet- as it should be- and practically empty. That's what Quinn liked about this place- silent, secluded, and filled with books.

He walked up to one of the many bookshelves and began to scan through the variety of titles in front of him. Sighing, he trailed further down the aisle, brushing his hand along the spines of the books as he went.

Marie tightened her hoodie around her as she continued down the sidewalk. She offered a small glimmer of a smile to her younger brother. They still had a few blocks until they arrived home and the cold morning weather seemed to be getting to him.

It wasn't necessarily her fault but she couldn't help but to feel guilty, as if Kayden was her responsibility, and hers alone. Which in all honesty he practically was. Last night her mother had a few people over and they were... high to say the least. The only option Marie had was to get out of there and take her nine year old brother with her. Now, on their way back home, they'd stopped for breakfast, but she was still worrying about her mother's state. Lost in her thoughts she was too oblivious to Kayden walking off. But when she saw him near the library doors she just shook her head before following him.

The door chimed as they entered and Marie allowed her younger brother to run off to the children section. This was one of their safe places, a place neither of them had to worry, and she could let her brother roam for hours. Realizing she might be here for a while she immediately made her way over towards the poetry section.

Quinn slid a book off of it's shelf. After quickly reading the short summary on the back, he deemed it interesting enough and decided to check it out. Looking around on the shelves a bit more, he finally decided to just head to the check out counter.

He trailed over to the front of the building. Only one person was in line, but he knew checking out wouldn't take long. Quinn turned his head to the entrance when he heard the library's door chime. A girl with dark brown hair and pale skin stood at the entrance, with a boy of the same features standing next to her.

He smiled faintly when the little boy ran off to the children's section of the library, reminding him of his own sister. He then frowned and turned back to the check out counter. Nothing good came out of thinking of his younger sister. The memory only made him sad. Quinn handed his book over to the tall elderly woman behind the counter, who took it into her dainty hands.

Marie noticed the way the boy in the check out counter looked at her brother, and his frown brought her close to saying something. She briefly wondered if Kayden was a disturbance to the guy, but she knew it was best not to ask. Asking lead to loud voices, and in most cases- for her- loud fighting. This time she contained herself. The library was one of the few places she was able to be herself. And surely a screaming match wouldn't add much to her credibility. The elderly librarian already seemed to have her judgements about the young Marie, and she didn't want to make her speculations true.

Crouching she scanned the multiple bookcases that held poetry. Deciding on a few novels- written in verse- she returned to one of the worn chairs by a large open window. Cracking open one of the books she gathered herself into a comfortable position, but she was unable to focus on the book. Instead her eyes wandered back towards the stranger standing by the desk. He looked familiar, but certainly not someone she'd ever hang out with- he had to be from school.

Once the woman behind the counter checked out his book, she handed it back to him. Quinn warily looked towards the exit. If he left now, he'd have to go back home, and he really didn't want to deal with that. Instead, he headed to the back of the library where a few chairs and tables were set up neatly in rows. He sighed quietly and sat in one of the chairs. He supposed he could stay longer.

To his right, was the poetry section. The girl that he saw earlier was there, looking through the selection of books. Looking back down, Quinn opened his book and flipped to the first page. He quickly ran a hand through his hair and began to read.

Their eyes met for a fraction of a second and Marie forced herself to turn her gaze back to the page in front of her. Always one for paranoia she continued reading the same line over and over again. Finally unable to sit there for much longer she stood. Carefully, and without out a noise, she walked through the poetry section to the lounge area in which he resided. She came to a stop in front of him and was already regretting her impulsive decision. Realizing there was no other option she took a seat beside him, making sure they weren't too close.

"Hi." She tried to keep her tone casual, and did her best to not seem like the stranger she was. Shaking her head in disapproval she knew that was exactly the way she was coming of. "Sorry, but do you go to Heartsfield High school?" Marie asked; cursing herself silently for her awkwardness.
