It's about a journalist and ex-detective who are trying to connect the murders of eleven girls in southeast Texas in the 1970s to a guy named Ed Bell, who wrote a poem/letter claiming he did the crimes but then recanted, saying the letter was made up. So far there's no direct evidence tying him to any of the crimes, but I've only watched the first 4 episodes. He's in prison for another murder, where he occasionally permits a Bundy-style self-involved interview.

He seems like a good fit circumstantially, but he's also stark raving mad, inconsistent, and apparently not tied to the murders otherwise. In several of the cases the two leads appear to be trying to shoehorn him into the picture. Not convinced yet, but we'll see where it goes.

I just watched episode 1 and so far it's just as you describe. He's all that you say, and seems to find humor in alternately revealing his involvement with the eleven girls and then denying everything. He's a conman, probably bored in prison, looking for the diversion of these people paying attention to him, with their cameras and all.
I'll give it several more episodes and then flip to the end...

Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments I'm on the final episode (#6), and they're consulting with another expert - not to spoil anything, but this third guy is pretty straightforward and has shot down a lot of their conclusions. It's a bit amusing - he's a "just the facts, ma'am" guy. I have a feeling this series is going the way of the Bigfoot research shows.
