I need some advice my fellow GR's!
I have been reading book after book for months. Its like an ADDICTION! lol
But I feel that Im not totally getting into certain books that have received amazing reviews, I feel im not connecting with the characters like I did with other books months ago.
Should I take a book break? How long? LOL My reading is my getaway! I love it!
Anyone else going or has gone through this??

I am an AVID reader. I finish one book and onto the next instantly. (My husband thinks I have a problem) Pfft no problem here.
I find having different genres helps to break up that monotony of reading. I've actually discovered many amazing authors this way.

I love reading but sometimes you get into a rut and need to change it up. I was just sticking to romance books but then tried reading some classics and modern classics instead to mix it up.
I did find it helpful to break from reading for a couple of days but I could never just stop completely. Sometimes changing book genre can help you connect with new characters instead of the same type of people that you usually read about.

Christina, you don't need to take a break. It happened to me too. I was reading book after book (mostly steamy romance) and wasn't feeling the excitement some books give you. I started thinking is it me?? Then I switched back to some really reliable authors and read a few other styles I haven't read for a while.. For me it was historical romance (Pamela Clare- highlanders) and contemporary (rachel Gibson). This got my groove back, then I read (reasonable doubt series) and omg... This series was fantastic!! Just what I needed, I was back to my old self, reading for hours. I think you need to find a book/author that you LOVE! It will reset your mood. Worked for me.
I agree with just switching up genres . Sometimes I even re
read my favourite ones.

Hi, Christina, it also occurred to me so I tried Paranormal Romance or sweet romance with little or no spices (I believed if you read too many steamy romances, you tended to get tired of sex scenes no matter how hot they were).
Also, according to my experience, although many books had received amazing reviews, I tended to get disappointed to read those books because as the saying goes, as higher the expectations, the greater the disappointment.
Another method was to finish the series I've ever read in the past. I tended to read one of two books of a series that could be read as stand-alone, so I back to read other books of the series. I believed your familiarity with the characters would also helpful for you to connect with hero and heroine.
Last, I would find books from friends' bookshelves, of course they had common interests with me and always gave honest and reliable reviews.

I jump from genre to genre. I try to wait for sales unless I'm positive a book is worth reading, so there are slumps where I'm trying to read something I've already put aside once (or more in some cases).
I find my mood affects what I'll get into the most. So when sexy starts to seem stale I will find a quality YA (Armentrout is my fave) or an author that tackles heavier subjects. (A Merideth Walter's is wonderful writer but the experience is exhausting for me)
If I need a definite laugh I will reread a Bradford book, I also adored Penny Reid's Knitting in the City series.
Mostly I come on GoodReads and participate in lists or discussions. I always find something I own that I forgot I had. Worse case I stalk book sites for sales until my next read finds me.

That happens to me once in a while but I love reading at night so I didn't want to give up reading.
But I did switch it up. I grew up on Historical romances and started reading those again just to break the same old/same old. How many billionaires bad boys or screwed up college girls can there really be without reading the same story over and over? LOL
