Can anyone explain to me the two religions? I read that it's two sects of Catholicism (is that correct?), but I'm still unclear on what they are and how the two religions played a part in the narrative.

For example: was one "religion" allied with the renouncers, and the other "religion" on the state's side?

Or were both religions within the district that they all live in, so it's like a feud going on within a larger feud, kind of.

If anyone knows the details of this, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you very much!
