Just wanted to add this to show the book with its new cover, which is dark, bolder, and just all around more powerful than the original.

I'm so appreciative of the reviews from this group so far--thanks to all for your time and interest! If the rest of you are still interested in reading The Griever's Mark, do you think you could get your reviews up by the end of January? I will be running a promotion on The Griever's Mark (and putting Book 2 up for pre-order!) on Feb 2 and would love to see a few more reviews by then. Thanks again for your interest!

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book because I don't read very many in the fantasy genre. But this is a very well written YA fantasy story. I liked the character of Astarti. Even though she lost her Mom as a baby and Belos has been raising her since then and has had her "leashed" to him since she was seven, she is still her own person. She can enter a thing called the Drift where she can move quickly to different places and people can't see her. But she can see the leash in the Drift and Belos can get to her quickly. He is a cruel person and has whipped her multiple times. She stumbles upon Logan who is an Earthmaker and they have an instant connection. Soon Astarti's background starts to become revealed. She and Logan grow closer and the battle begins to take over a Kingdom. There were parts that frustrated me but Astarti is only 17. I will have to say Katherine really knows how to write an ending to make you want to read the next book. I can't believe she did that to us. I want book two now! Go to Amazon.com and download this book if you like fantasy stories. This is a really good one.

Before Astarti’s mother abandoned her to the deadly ocean tides, she gave her infant daughter a parting gift: a tattoo known as the Griever’s Mark, meant to carry her into death. But before the tide could claim her, the Earthmaker Belos, cast out by his people for his cruelty and for delving into forbidden magic, found and saved her. At least, that’s his story.
For seventeen years, Astarti has served Belos, using her control of the energy world, known as the Drift, to help Belos gain power throughout the kingdom of Kelda. Though she hates her master, the Leash he has anchored deep within her makes defiance impossible.
But when Logan, a handsome Earthmaker with his own reasons to hate Belos, recognizes that Astarti may be more than she seems, Astarti begins to unravel Belos’s lies: about her Mark, about her parents, and, most importantly, about her power. Astarti also discovers that Belos’s plans are bigger and more terrible than anyone has guessed, and she must decide: how much will she risk to stand against him?

Sign up and read this book for a review. No it isn't the Throne of Glass but one of the closest books to it. Hope who ever reads this book loves it as much as I did. If you need me to talk to you after the book is over I will be here to fangirl with you. I'm probably rambling a little too much :)
