For this category I read "The Flight of Gemma Hardy" by Margot Livesey. Sadly, this was one of my least favourite books thus far. It begins with a very Dickensian feel (to a fault), and doesn't improve much from there. It's apparently a 'modernized verison' of Jane Eyre, so maybe it would have been more enjoyable if I was a Jane Eyre fan? I wouldn't recommend otherwise.

Missing Pieces by Heather Gudenkauf.

It was 1997 when I was 20, so I choose Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. We'll see how it goes!
