For this challenge, you will choose horror books set in a country other than your own or where the author is from a country other than your own. Try to chose as many different country settings or authors as you can.

Sign up here: https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

May your travels around the world be horrifying.

Not sure what is going on.
Is anyone else having a problem with the link?

Elke (misspider) | 651 comments Never gave much thought to the location, so I'm curious to see how many books I'll manage. Great idea for a new challenge! How many will I manage to read? No idea, maybe 10? Here goes:

Australia (author): Dark
Canada: Off The Grid
England: Belle Vue
France (author): Welcome!
GDR: Zwei fremde Leben
Iceland: Hochland
Italy: Ich bleibe hier
Lonely Orphan (planet): Rogue Planet
Purgatory: Welcome!
Sweden: 1794
USA: In the Valley of the Sun

The outcome is not too surprising, considering I didn't choose any books especially for this list.

David B | 73 comments I’m not participating in this challenge, but I recommend Zoo, by Otsuichi to anyone looking for a Japan book. I haven’t read every story in this collection yet, but I’m very impressed with it so far. There’s one story about a worldwide plague of spontaneous decapitations that blew my mind. And, yes, I know how weird that sounds.

In my opinion Japan is a country with many great horror authors! They do a great job. I am going to read Das Casting by Ryū Murakami for this challenge, the English version is called 'Audition' I think.

message 15: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas (knarly15) | 18 comments I got the link to work on my laptop. I am all set up now. My goal is 10.

message 16: by Daffy (last edited Dec 16, 2019 01:13AM) (new)

Daffy True (shasarazad) | 42 comments This is right up my ally! I'm going to try to find a book a month.

Edit: Oh, and since I'm from Sweden and can't read John Ajvide Lindquist for this challenge I'm going to recommend his books to you. Many know of Let the Right One In Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist but personally I liked Handling the Undead Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist more.

message 17: by Elke (new)

Elke (misspider) | 651 comments Daffy wrote: "but personally I liked 'Handling the Undead' more."

Good idea, I've got that sitting on my shelf along with a couple others from Lindquist, though I've only yet read (and loved) 'Let the Right One In'. If you think 'Handling...' is even better I'm in for a treat :)

message 18: by Feli (new)

Feli (felifirefly) | 516 comments Thanks for the recommendations, Daffy. I haven't read anything by Lindquist, yet. So I have a book for Sweden and one for Japan now.
I thought about which Horror authors there are from Germany, but to be honest, I am not sure there are any. Most I know (who are often referred to as 'horror' authors) are writing dark fantasy 🙈😣

Yes. I considered where the author is from, not where the story is set. The challenge is about one or another possibility (or both, I guess).
