Good morning, All --
I know it is a very busy time of year so I'm wondering if anyone had a chance to read this book? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Do you enjoy reading memoir/travelogues and/or history? Do you feel this sort of journey could still happen as improvised and safely today?
I found this book a mix of all of these things and almost found the idea of such a journey more captivating than some of the book. Technically speaking, while I did find his writing lyrical, I also needed a dictionary handy for his enormous vocabulary. Not necessarily a bad thing for me. I also found myself a little bogged down in some of the history (as it exposed the great gaps in my knowledge of European history and monarchies) but did leave me interested to learn more. He seemed to live a very romantic life (even at the age of eighteen) and I think I would enjoy reading a biography of him as well as the next book on this set of travels.

I am a little behind in my reading. I actually purchased the book. I couldn't find it in any of the local libraries. The Pioneer system seemed to have a second book in the series but not the first. Once I am done, I plan on donating it to them to have a full set.
Both myself and my husband are looking forward to reading it. We would love to travel to Constantinople one day.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and break!
Best,
Becky
Next up is A Time of Gifts by Patrick Leigh Fermor. Our discussion leader will be Kathy and it will start on December 15th. Happy reading!
