Bridget and I have been thinking about what we want to do with this group for next year, 2020. So we thought we'd run a poll to see what other folks would like to do.

A quick review: The original Great American Read series aired on PBS in 2018, starting with a special in May, then the main series in October. This group was created by Lavan in May 2018. Since then, we've read 31 books total, 13 standalone books and 18 as part of a series (across 5 series). So that's a pretty good run. We were originally reading one standalone book per month and one series book per month. That's slowed down a bit, since the last few standalone books we've read were all over 1000 pages, so we gave them more than a month.

The poll can be found here and will run for a week, ending on 12/21.

Here are the poll options, for reference:
A. Keep going as usual, with one standalone group read per month, and a complete series read over several months.
B. Two books per month, one standalone, and one series read, but just the first book in any given series.
C. Just one book per month. It can be either a standalone or the first book in a series.
D. Discontinue the group reads. Continue to use the group for open discussion of any books on the Great American Read list.

Please vote and post any further thoughts here. Thanks!

A quick reminder that this poll closes at the end of day today.

The poll is currently tied between "keep going as usual" and "just one book per month". If it ends in a tie, I'll go with the "keep going as usual" option.

And, either way, I'll post the poll(s) for our January read(s) tomorrow.

I think that's a wonderful plan.
