Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) Just heard the news thru a text - couldnt find anything on the news but was able to confirm thru Yahoo, that Patrick Swayze passed away earlier this evening. I absolutely loved him in Dirty Dancing, Ghost & the mini-series North & South. I will miss his acting & his smile.

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments I am so sorry to hear that. I also loved him in Dirty Dancing and Ghost. He fought the inevitable very well, staying chipper. The entertainment industry has lost one of the great ones.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) My thoughts are with your sister Carol...My husband was diagnosed 8 years ago with bladder cancer & thank God & the Awesome docs @ Indiana Univ in Indianapolis, IN for their ability to treat. Patrick was very courageous to have brought his illness to the public. It is very sad that the entertainment world & everyone else lost such a great person & a terrific actor.

Sharon Ellis | 176 comments wow. I know first hand the struggle with cancer. I think a peson's spirit grows and the perspective of what is important changes for the better during this battle. It is a devastating disease, cancer. I pray to God that He will allow us to have a cure for these cancers very very soon. Lord, I pray that You will? amen

Lindalee Stahlman (lindalees) | 22 comments The thing I admired about Patrick S was his long term marriage-married for decades (IIRC around 35) to the same woman-not usual for film stars.

Cancer is a nasty insidious disease that causes too much death for people who are too young. I have lost too many of my family to cancer and my sister is now an oncology nurse for that reason.

If any of you are interested the red Sox run a huge call a thon for the Jimmy Fund - Children with Cancer at the Dana Farber Institute. There is a web site called www.thebreatcancersite.com. Everyday you can go there and click once and the clicks are counted and paid for by the sponsors toward mammograms for disadvantaged women.

Patrick Swayze first caught me in the Outsiders and then in Red Dawn and then I fell in love with him and Dirty Dancing. I actually played the video so many times that it disintegrated - it was also the first video I owned!!!

No one puts Baby in the corner! RIP
