Just started it, not gonna get far but enjoying so far. Karou having a story for each of her characters she draws reminds me of my artist friends from high school, always telling stories and backstories for their characters and making intricate worlds they'd share during lunch.

Read the first 3ch's so far, currently still looking forward to more. Idk if I'll love this but I think I'll enjoy it.

Okay so I'm on episode 3 of the Witcher and I'm unsure if you've read the books so I'll just say this: the first season is basically introducing Geralt, Ciri, and Yen. The real meat of the story is next season which starts production in February. Geralt and Yen's stories are both in the past, Ciri's is in the present. This season is based on the first two volumes of short stories "The Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny" and whilst this season does have the "first season" vibes, it's really very good but a fair amount to improve upon.

Yeah I marathoned s1 yesterday. It was definitely good, but I'm hoping future seasons will be better. The whole past vs present thing was not well indicated, even when it became obvious. They did super good casting with Geralt though.

I'll get back to this book maybe come Monday. For now caught up on some anime (Askeladd!!!) and watching Dr. Stone.

Yeah, same. That's been the biggest complaint from fans so I hope they listen. But overall it was a solid season. Critics have ripped it apart, though, not that I'm surprised. One dude decided it was best to watch episodes one and two then skip to five then skip to eight and do a review on it calling it "shit" when he didn't watch the whole thing. But these are the same people who lambasted Cats without seeing it (not that I'm going to because I have no interest) so nobody is listening to their criticisms.

I'm gonna start the book within the next day or so!! I don't know where my brain is at right now but I'm just going with what I'm feeling and I'm walking around with a brain fog from depression so I'm not forcing myself to do anything. In a few days I'll respond to your message, too. I've read it and marked it unread to remind myself that it's there.

I am gonna catch up on Vinland Saga before the year ends. I swear!!!

Dr. Stone was good! I gave s1 an 8, my mom gave it a 9. I'm expecting to like s2 better maybe, and I fully expect to like the manga better.

On a side note, you can completely skip Glasslip. It's pointless, nothing happens, the characters are far from great, and the dialogue feels stilted, awkward, and mostly nonsensical.

Alright, thoughts on Jaskier? I haven't read any of the books yet nor played the game(s) as of yet -hoping to change that soon- nor seen anyone do a playthrough of the game(s), have only caught a few minutes here and there of Witcher 3 and seen the game trailer. So I know very little of any of the characters outside of Netflix's adaptation now, beyond knowing they casted Geralt very well, esp for that voice, Yenn-however you finish spelling her name looks pretty well casted but maybe could've been casted better idk?, there's two other main girls a blonde and redhead Geralt can endgame with, Ciri is younger in game when Geralt meets her and trains her, something about in a cool training place surrounded by mountains?, and Jaskier (I thought he was blonde in game for some reason) is a good bard boy who according to Netflix doesn't know he has the hots for Geralt.
Do you think he was well casted and they got the relationship (at least so far as it can be explored in the series as of yet) is comparable to canon?! I need to know your opinion.

Last episode of Vinland Saga airs on Dec 30, 2019. So you still have time to catch up for the last episode or marathon after it airs so you get it all at once, or batches, whatever.

Dr. Stone is all about the Power of Science, how cool science can be, what it does for us, how much we should appreciate everything it gives us, both on the technological side and the survival side for like heat & light in winter/night and good meals and such. That's a big part of it, but also there's the human side (which may be where the MP100 comparisons come in since MP100 is veeeeeeeeeerrry focused on being a good person and human relationships and being a better you). Dr. Stone is set in a world 3,700 years in the future in a prehistoric world after a mysterious light encompasses the earth and petrifying all humans and swallows, for some reason that mc Senku is determined to figure out, alongside using science to restore civilization from prehistoric times, but finds himself thwarted by one of the first people he manages to 'revive' from petrification, Tsukasa, who opposes Senku's desire to revive all of humanity and instead wants to revive only the youthful because he feels the previous older generations will only bring sorrow to humanity like before. So on one hand the series is a cool little 'the power of scientific exploration/experimentation' and also the good/bad of humanity, how/why cooperation is so necessary even between seeming opposites, and of course friendship power.

The science part is cool and all, but I think it'll appeal more to actual science types, like my bf who loves it for that, or younger generations learning about science. I love the series for the characters and the relationships and the relationship struggles. It drew me in right away with Senku and his relationship with his two childhood friends and their passionate devotions. Tsukasa is a cool character, Chrome and Kohaku are also great when you meet them a bit later, but I feel the series shone the most brightly with Senku and his friends Taiju and Yuzuriha in the beginning.
I'm sure I'll love the manga, since I adore the mangaka's other series Eyeshield 21, but so far s1 isn't perfect but is definitely still good.

Okay so I couldn’t trust my Wi-Fi to hold out long enough for me to write my comment and send it, so this is being drafted in Word lmao. I’m sorry for being so distant these past few days. It’s just difficult to get onto the Wi-Fi in my room, and when I’m out of my room I’m usually too anxious to concentrate because there’s just too much sensory shit going on ahah. Hopefully once I get the extender for the Wi-Fi, this will no longer be an issue.

Jaskier is actually perfectly cast. Joey Batey completely captures the essence of Jaskier—also known as Dandelion in book translations and the games—but the biggest change from the books is that Jaskier only just met Geralt, whereas in the books they have been friends a long time.

Triss Merigold—if you’re talking about the red-headed woman from the games—is a game-only romance option. She’s actually quite terrible in the books and no one likes her (for example: she got dysentery in Blood of Elves and needed Geralt to carry her to the woods and help her shit. After she was done shitting—right after, they’re still in the same spot—she starts crying and grabbing onto Geralt, saying she’s so jealous of Yennefer because she has him, and begs him to fuck her right then and there. Geralt refuses, sends Ciri away—she was there the whole time—and carries Triss back to the cart. Another example: she backstabs all her friends). Yennefer is Geralt’s true love.

Ciri is basically Geralt and Yennefer’s adopted daughter because to become a witcher and a sorceress respectively they had to give up (unwillingly; Geralt was a kid, Yennefer wasn’t told the price) their ability to reproduce. Jaskier is not blond in the games; he’s dark-haired and wears vibrant purple clothing with a ridiculous feather hat.

In regards to Triss, Witcher 3 takes away all the troubling parts of her and leaves her without fault. But once you understand what the talk is in the game about “amnesia” and their relationship, you realise she’s still pretty insidious. If you wanna know that story, lemme know.

But yes, Jaskier in the show is perfectly cast. Jaskier in the game—Dandelion—is not. Where in the show there is now the potential for them to grow as close as they are in the books (Jaskier has no martial ability but he decides to follow Geralt into danger anyway out of loyalty and becomes Geralt’s voice of reason—and Jaskier basically schools Geralt in politics because the dude literally did not understand he had just walked into a political nightmare where all fifteen people are conspiring to destroy each other until he walked right into the middle of it unwittingly. He thought Philippa, a lesbian, was trying to seduce him because she was sexually interested and not because she wanted to find out what he knew. The boy knows nothing. He found out because Keira Metz, another sorceress, was punching the shit out of a dude with knuckledusters and he just strolled right the fuck in. Jaskier and Yennefer were like omg you poor boy, no.)

Please play the games! You only need to play Witcher 3. That was my introduction. And if you can source the books from a library or something, we can read them together. But please, please play the game! I’ve played it four times. It’s a literal masterpiece.

Tell me, does Thorfinn become a full-grown adult now, or is he still a teen? I’ve seen manga images of him in his 20s or 30s and the boy is fucked.

Also, I hope you don’t mind a bit of a rant below. My Christmas was going good until my sister completely derailed it.
So for the longest time my sister has been asking us for money and always promising to give it back. She owes my aunt hundreds, my cousin at least $50, my brother’s bike (which got stolen), and me $20. My aunt gives both of them $200 for Christmas because it’s easier than figuring out what the fuck they want. Everything is going well and good, my sister doesn’t start shit for the whole day. But at the end? We’re loading up gifts and food into the car to come home and my sister turns around and says to my brother, “Give me $70 out of your money. You owe me for [x stupid reason]” and we’re all like, no. I turned around and said, “You owe us so much fucking money, you should be giving your money to us to pay the debts that you racked up” because she kept promising to give it back and never did. She told me to shut the fuck up. We continued refusing to let her try and bully more money out of him and left. But she has absolutely no idea that she’s two seconds away from being cut out entirely. She won’t get anymore money from us, my aunt is basically (hopefully) gonna ignore her, and my Nan would be absolutely ashamed of her if she knew. Sometimes when my sister rings, she doesn’t even say hello before she asks for money. Literal fucking scab. I want to tell her to continue mooching off her friends because she’ll get more support there than she will here. She never helped with Nan, never helps with Pop, any time she was asked to do housework she’d pitch a fit and demand to know why she had to do it and what everyone else was doing.

But yeah, we’re constantly under financial burden because we’re all pensioners and trying to get rid of the debt my Nan left behind after her death, but we have family treating us like bank accounts! We’re fucking sick of it!

But either way, nothing new under the sun. We’ll deal with it. 2020 the year of not taking anyone’s bullshit anymore.

oh god book-Triss sounds awful. I'm glad game-Triss is better by comparison geez. Though honestly now I'm left wondering why Netflix casted Triss the way they did. She looks absolutely nothing like the game version, does she look better for the book version??? I kept looking for a redhead so had no clue that girl I barely paid any attention to was somehow meant to be the game redhead.

Cool! I'm looking forward to more of Jaskier tagging along with Geralt then. And I'll play the game eventually, but I literally haven't had an opportunity to so far. I will be getting a computer soon so maybe then, esp since it's on sale again right now, at least on Steam. On that note, do you recommend the Game of the Year Edition? I'll probably get that edition anyway though since I have some Steam credit so would be paying less than a $1 outside of the store credit for that edition.

Book Triss is honestly awful, and to make game Triss even an option they had to make her perfect whilst keeping Yennefer the same. Yen and Geralt have an on-again-off-again relationship where they bicker like a married couple and they're both equal in power in different ways so they're on even footing. But in the game, they deal with the djinn situation and I won't spoil it for you because it is truly a beautiful moment but it shows the two of them are truly meant to be together. And if you play the game, DO NOT romance both Triss and Yen because you will be punished for doing it. Pick one.

Triss in the books actually has brown hair. They made her a redhead in the game because she knows pyromancy. The games change a lot of things and because some people played the game and didn't read the books, they think that show-Triss is wrong when she isn't. Well, she's not black in the books either, but the same as Fringilla, I didn't mind. Everyone in the books is Slavic, so, white. And people went balls to the wall insane over the choice to include other races in the show as "diversity bait" when like, mate, it's not that fucking bad. The place where it is set isn't even set in an old-timey European country. It's entirely fictional. Non-white people exist. Want an entirely homogenous Witcher? Witcher 3 has your back.

Yes, get the Game of the Year edition. It comes with the dlcs Blood & Wine and Hearts of Stone. They're like two full-blown games in themselves. Otherwise you'll have to buy them separately. So it's a money-saver.

I haven't started it just yet, gonna likely hold off until it is finished airing I think, but watched Mother's Basement's vid on Babylon and that is very high on my tbw list now. Very dark and psychological thriller that's a fucked up but also looks compelling. I don't know if you'll actually want to add it to your list considering the dark nature of it and the theme, but it looks good and well animated so I'm looking forward to it.

I love how every time we do a buddy read we make a thread early and then spend like a whole comments page talking about other things as we put off starting the book for the next week.

Have fun playing Gwent!!! Pro tip: use spy cards (which you'll collect throughout the game) first because you'll build up your card count - which boosts their percentage. They'll pass the first round if you do that and win it if you don't try to chase (don't, unless you have a good enough card so you don't use others and waste what your spy cards have done for you) and then they'll pass the second round, which you can throw out a card and win it as long as your number is higher than theirs, and then the third round is like a back and forth battle. With so many more cards in your arsenal, it'd be difficult for you to lose.

Chuck out your weather cards because they'll take up a lot of space needed for better cards. And when Zoltan's Gwent quest comes up later in the game, TAKE THE CARDS NOT THE MONEY. They're very rare.

Also, the scorch card meant to wipe out the highest card on the board will wipe yours out too. Make sure none of your cards are higher than theirs before you use it.

Also, simulate a Witcher 2 save and say you saved Letho. His is the only choice with consequences because he'll show up in the game and will help you later on. In his quest when he says don't intervene, don't intervene. Go along with it.

And if that counts as spoilers for the game, I'll stop there. That's basically my tips for playing. Enjoy!! You're in for a treat!!!

Ahahaha yeah I was just thinking about that. We'll start having conversations about anything and everything besides the book itself. I love it.

I just remember struggling with Gwent until someone taught me how to play. It's a strategy game. These days with my Gwent deck I can beat just about everyone in only two rounds because I've collected so many special cards. Once you get the hang of it, it's very difficult for you to lose unless you put the AI on difficult. Mine's on normal.

Wait Witcher 3 involves cards? It's a card fight game??? All of that is very new information to me, I'll keep it all in mind and refer back to this post frequently I think..

Yup. It's a full-on RPG with a game inside it. It's very fun. You also do horse-racing. I highly recommend playing ASAP.

Also, I got my range extender. The Wi-Fi is a lot stronger now and I'm so happy. The motherfucker cost $98 so it better work ahahah. I'm no longer in a dead zone.

I watched episode 13 of Vinland Saga finally. Glad to finally start it again! I'm probs gonna spread it out over a few days so there's not a gap between episode 23 and 24.

I really need to find more adult anime. I quickly outgrew the genres I used to watch. Give me problems that don't get defeated by the power of friendship and a pink haired girl that has a voice so high in pitch you're almost in need of machinery to hear it. *shakes fist at the sky* stop animators from thinking ecchi is the way to go.

It's not really (just) the animators though. There's a market for that after all, so of course they're going to go for it and make bank, since that's indeed what they do. There's definitely shit ecchi stuff out there -Monster Girls, BLEH!- but thankfully it's not all on that terrible level. Though yeah it is all over the place and I do suuuuper agree we need more good mature anime, or even just more mature anime geez.
I don't know how much good mature stuff there is from this season, or from the upcoming. Babylon of course, defu mature and looks super good, but also maybe?? No Guns Life? have to get into that one. And no idea about Kabukichou Sherlock, Fairy Gone, or Special Crime Investigation Unit. Beastars might count, but if you've seen Zootopia it's just that in anime form so more detail and longer, with the highschool setting for the discrimination.

The book is your typical YA that got published in the flood of post-Twilight YA fiction. It's better written than Twilight but like. I'm struggling with the fact that they're in an American school in America and in waltzes the love interest with an English accent despite not having lived in England for years, he was just born there. Also Mara suffers from PTSD but gets pissy with her mother for being worried about her. Like bruh you had a building collapse on your head and survived by chance, then you had an episode and stuck your arm in a piping hot bath for an hour resulting in some pretty bad burns, and you see your dead friends everywhere. Exactly how is your mother supposed to react? Also the main character laments that she is pasty white to her mother's tanned skin thanks to her father's genetics and calls herself ugly. Can't have a protagonist that thinks she's beautiful. Also, all the girls in the rich people school except for the protagonist are spiteful bitches who bully Mara because she's friends with English dude and they're jealous of her. Because naturally.

I can't believe I used to eat this shit up. Nineteen-year-old me has some explaining to do to twenty-five-year-old me.

yeeeeaaah unless he lived there for a good while and spoke a lot and stayed around others using the dialect, his dialect and accent would be more influenced by the dialects/accents of America where he lived recently than England dia-acc's of years past. That's not how accents and dialects work. You need exposure, the more recent and ongoing and the more use you put into it, the better.

Our younger selves have nothing to explain. We were younger, less knowledgeable of the world, less exposed, etc. We didn't know any better but to be influenced and interested in things like this.

I think he mentioned that he moved to America as a little kid. There's absolutely no way he should still have the accent.

Also, we have my cousin's dog over for two weeks and the big baby is waiting to go for a walk but I'm the only one here with my Pop so I can't take her. And she barks. Loudly. Right outside my window because that's where the backyard is. I had a difficult night sleeping ahahaha.

I think I'm getting moody and irritable so quickly now because a) I really need my antidepressants which I should get tomorrow and keep track of vigilantly, and b) I'm suffering "withdrawal" from fanfictions because I stopped reading them maybe like a week ago. As soon as the 31st rolls around I'm reading the longest Drarry fic I can find and reading it through until midnight of the 1st.

You're in luck then. Last episode just aired. I'm not looking forward to the last two eps tugging at my heart honestly.

Okay so I need to do something because my stress levels are going through the roof. Everything is either pissing me off or making me anxious. Latest cause: my aunt and brother went to put in for benefits for my brother and they've gone out completely unprepared for it.

Ya girl's gonna have to make a doctor appointment tomorrow. The sore I believed to be a pimple underneath my breast is now sore to the touch, has a yellowish black head on it, and the skin around it looks like it's starting to bruise. Better to be safe than sorry. Also the "pimple" itself is a very dark red. I'd rather know for sure that it's a pimple.

I may have given myself a little cut and the skin got infected. I'm hoping that's what it is. I wouldn't be surprised.
