China Mieville has one hell of an imagination. The creatures in this book are wild. I like his writing style but I'm still not too engaged with the characters. It's a lot better for me when Mieville focuses on plot instead of worldbuilding (the book is more than halfway done. Please stop worldbuilding). I see why so many people love this book but it's not really for me.
The action keeps coming and still liking the book more and more. Was I wrong to be turned on a little by the slake moth orgy? Mr. Motley's anti-slake-moth militia is pretty bad ass. Which makes me wonder, how long has he been in the slake moth husbandry business? Are these his first slake moths or has he had others? It seems as if the 4 he buys from Vermeshank are his first, but he seems rather well prepared for them. They already seem to understand a bit about slake moth breeding, the fact that they are androgynous until summer when the female is chosen and they mate. Seems an easier trap, one traditionally used by hunters, is to release some slake moth pheremones. Sort of the same as using the psychic amplification helmet, but better. Looks like I called it w/ the constructs being the best weapons against the slake moths, at least thus far in the book they've had the best success. I continue to enjoy Yagharek's development and learning more about him...Interesting that he admits in the last part to playing dumb. Now to find out why he is. Hope he doesn't die in the slake moth battle! Would seem premature, given we haven't seen if the crisis engine will help him fly again.
Hoping to power through the rest of the book tonight so I can jump on The Broken Eye!
