Kyla drew a deep breath as the enormous doors groaned open. The roar of the crowds outside blasted her ears and she had to shut her eyes tight to get used to it. When her district was announced, she plastered on a fake smile and began to wave. The crowd cheered and yelled as they passed, throwing flowers and jewellery and-Kyla noticed one falling into their chariot-wigs. There was even a fish that went soaring overhead, obviously for District 4. Despite herself, Kyla let out a laugh. The Capitol citizens were definitely ludicrous.
As the chariot approached the circle were President Snow stood in his balcony, overlooking it, Kyla fluffed up her dress and let it fly backwards under her arms as she waved. She even blew fake kisses for effect. The chariots circled around once, and soon came to a stop. A sudden silence fell over the crowds as President Snow raised his hand. And began his speech.

Please, ladies and gentlemen, give a warm hand for District 4's female tribute: Kyla Huxley!
The crowd cheered and applauded widly as Kyla, still dumbfounded by her brilliant dress, anxiously walked on stage. For an odd reason, she felt somewhat fake. The strange makeup she was wearing seemed to weigh her down; she had never worn makeup before, and knew it could never be her. And the Capitol citizens, who were all crying out and clapping for her; they didn't mean that. Three days ago they would have scorned her, looked down upon her
Kyla Huxley, welcome, welcome to the Capitol!
Kyla was broken out of her thoughts as Caesar Flickerman, the famous interviewer, approached, dressed in a yellow silk suit and tie, his hair dyed bright yellow to match. She flashed him a fake, cheerful smile. "Oh, good evening Caesar! And thank you," she cried, doing her best to charm him and the Capitol citizens as well. She hated to do it, but if at least one person to a liking to her, they might sponsor her in the arena.
Not at all, Kyla Huxley. Please, take a seat. Caesar guided her over to two low, white, cushioned chairs. Kyla rearranged her skirts as she sat down and gave the crowd another smile.
Now Kyla, to start us off, tell us a bit about your life in District 4. I'm sure everyone is dying to know. The crowd applauded again.
Kyla laughed and racked her brain for something interesting. "Well, I did a lot of fishing and swimming in my district, although..." Kyla has a feeling that to truly impress the Capitol she needed to bend the truth a little. "My-My father was a fisherman too. In fact, he...he caught the most fu-ahem-fish in the shortest amount of time."
Caesar raised his eyebrows in interest. I say, what an achievement. I assume he passed on some of your skills to yourself? Caesar winked at her, and Kyla instantly knew he knew she was lying. But she was glad he didn't say anything about it.
"Well, I-I guess. I can use a spear pretty well, and catch fish easily in a net, but...well, I'm not sure." Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why are you so modest? IMPRESS THE CAPITOL!
You're very humble, Kyla. I'm sure we all like that. Now, what about your family? What are they like?
Kyla's stomach dropped. Oh no. No, she didn't want to talk about that. Not at all, never. No, no, no, no, no. But she had to. The Capitol waited. She drew a deep shaky breath, and said, "They were-are-very, very kind and loving. I-I do love them and miss them, a lot...I..." She felt tears pricking her eyes and knew she had to stop. She couldn't talk about them. She couldn't do it.
It's perfectly fine, Kyla. You needn't talk about them if you don't want to. How about we talk about you impression of the Capitol. Have you enjoyed it?
Kyla was so grateful Caesar had changed the subject. Perhaps he wasn't as conceited as she thought. "Oh, I love it so much, especially how it looks at night. I watch it from my penthouse here; it's amazing!" In truth, the Capitol wasn't as fantastic as Kyla made it sound. She hated all the loud noises and lights, being used to the quiet sounds of the waves and the wind in District 4.
The crowd cheered much more loudly than before at her reply. She thought she heard a man cry out, "You're damn right, it is!" Caesar Flickerman laughed at the crowd. I thought you would enjoy it; most tributes do. Now, for your last question,-Caesar lowered his voice, but still enough so the crowd could hear-what are your strategies for the arena?
"I haven't even properly thought about them! Although I don't know if I should mention them, in case they're stolen or...u-used against me. But I will be using a spear, no doubt, and a net. Oh, I absolutely do not want to kill anybody."
Ah, of course, Kyla. Well, I'm sorry but that's all we have time for today. Thank you for your time, Kyla. Just then a buzzer went off, and Caesar held her hand and stood up with her. Capitol, I give you, Kyla Huxley!
The crowd's cheers and whoops still echoed in Kyla's ears even when she had left the stage.
