Q: What about entrants outside the U.S.?A: You are welcome to join in the reading fun. Unfortunately, this year we will not be mailing prize packs outside the U.S., due to monetary constraints.
Q: Five books? I read that much in a year...A: Yep, this challenge is meant to push your boundaries a bit! You're welcome to enter and see how many you get. Everyone is welcome to participate in the discussion, even if you don't make it to your goal for the month.
Q: What's in the prize?A: New or gently used paperbacks are the staple of the giveaway. Most of the books will be Christian fiction, since all the moderators are Christian and often read in the genre, but it will not be exclusively Christian fiction.
Q: What if I don't want to win a prize?A: You're still welcome to participate in the goal and challenges and/or games. When you make your completion post, simply add a line that says "Don't enter me for the drawing."
Q: What's the exact point of the customized Goodreads shelf? Do we add the books when we've read them, or is it for books we're planning on reading for the challenge?A: The customized shelf is so the moderators can check to see how many books you have completed for the challenge. Please only put on the shelf the books you finish for the challenge. Remember to select dates when prompted when you post your reviews so that the moderators may make sure the books were only read in February 2020.
Q: Do books we've already started in January count, as long as we finish them in February?A: As long as there are at least 150 pages left to read when the challenge begins, starting a book in January (or any other month) is fine. Just note in your post how many pages you read, if you aren’t starting from the beginning.
Q: When does this challenge end?A: The challenge ends on February 29, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.
Q: How would an audiobook figure in terms of pages? I usually listen to a couple of them a month. Would you figure from the pages in a different edition? if so, which edition?A: If you listen to an audiobook, you may count the page number of the book with the same text the story was read from (for example, an unabridged audio would be the same as a regular edition of a hard copy, or an abridged would equal a condensed or edited version hard copy). In cases of books with many editions, if the most similar hard copy listed is over 150 pages, it may be counted for the challenge.
Q: Can I use books that I'm going to be reading for other challenges?A: Yes, as long as it's 150 pages or more.
Q: Do nonfiction books longer than 150 pages count for this challenge?A: Yes. Any book at least 150 pages counts. Fiction, nonfiction, audiobook (see message 10 in this thread), etc. all count.
Q: How do you get a picture of the book to post on your challenge log?A: Make sure you're on the desktop version of Goodreads (this cannot be done via the app). Above the comment box, there should be a button that says "add book/author." Click that.
A box will pop up. At the bottom of it, click the circle beside "cover." Then, click in the search box near the top of the pop-up box you're in and type in whichever book you want. When a list pops up, select "add" next to whichever book cover you're searching for.
Q: May I increase my goal after the challenge begins?A: Goals are set once they are originally posted. However, you may read as many additional books as you like.
Q: May I lower my goal? I won’t be able to reach it after all!A: Unfortunately, no. Goals are set once they are originally posted. Even if you don’t reach your goal, you will have checked a few books off your reading list, so you may still feel a sense of accomplishment.
Q: Should we include the page count of each book in our updates of what we have completed?A: Yes, please do. That makes it easier for the moderators to check at a glance that your books meet the page requirements.
Q: Do we have to review the books we read?A: No, reviews are not required. Just let us know the page count, dates read (begin and end dates, please!), the title, and author of the books. The books should be placed on your designated shelf for the challenge.
Hey! I listened to an audio drama (An audible original, Interview with a Robot to be precise) that is not a book, but it was over five hours long. Does that still count? Or not, since it's not a "book".
Does it have a listing of any sort on Goodreads? We're only counting audios that have book listings on Goodreads, because we confirm page counts that way.Great job on the listen, though!
If I start a book for the challenge, don't like it, and want to DNF, can I still count it as long as I get past page 150? (The book I'm about to start has really mixed reviews so I don't know if I'll like it, LOL. Hopefully I will, I just wanted to check in case I don't. :) )
