I shall, I am kinda hoping your German reading will be so good that you join me on the lofty heights in Switzerland :)
1. Makarionissi oder Die Insel der Seligen by Vea Kaiser

4/5 stars
My first German book of the year under my belt and how glorious it was. Think Pop-Melodrama in the Greek heroic tragedy tradition and that would be fairly close to the mark. When will someone please publish @signora_vea in English? A sample her oompah pop book is available in English and it is excellent.

Die Insel der Seligen is available in French and Spanish though :)
2. Der Irrgeist Des Schlosses by Nataly Von Eschstruth
There is this certain type of German aristocratic, Protestant female writer that makes your eyes roll so hard you wonder if they might get stuck. Nataly von Eschstruth (1860-1939) is one of those. She was a bestseller author from the 1880ies onwards and this novel was published in 1886. She wants to tell you 3 things with her novel: 1) Aristocratic people know best 2) A foolish young girl will find her way after some tribulations and find her way through faith to her husband and master 3) only true Aristocrats are good people. I think it is a good job she is mostly forgotten, I laughed so much reading this book (because it is ridiculous) and I am glad I have ticked her of my German female writers list to try.
