Your thoughts about Argent and Millie’s romance? As a couple? Him as a father?

The heart wants what the heart wants. That is what these books are all about. Against all odds the assassin found a woman to accept him and love him. As a couple, she needed a protector and he needed to be needed and loved in spite of who he was. I think he will make a great father. He had a lot of patience for Jakab and had respect for the boy's interests.

I think Millie and Argent are good for each other. And, I think he will be an excellent father for Jakub. He seems a natural.

When I first started this book, I wondered how the author would convince me that Millie and Argent would be good together. But as the story went on, I could definitely see them together and being parents for Jakub.

Argent's transformation is amazing. He didn't believe he was husband or father material. The author did a fantastic job of making a believer out of me!

I'm always amazed at how I feel about a character I consider to be very flawed and the author makes me do a 180 by the end of the book.

Agree. That is the sign of a talented author.

The romance as absolutely wonderful. Millie and Christopher's chemistry palpable and I enjoyed their interactions. Christopher is my favorite type of hero - tortured and brooding, lol!

I also loved Christopher's obvious affection for Jakub and their chats were delightful.

Byrne's willingness to touch on the darker side of Victorian society is another point in her favor.

I’m loving this series because the author really develops her characters extremely well. I feel like I know them, how they’ll react, what they feel and why they’re wired the way they are. They are also complicated without easy fixes.

I liked the unexplained connection between Millie & Christopher. It just is and I accepted that. His interactions with Jakub were honest, sort of like the suspended child in him could relate to him. They will do fine. Loved the honesty of the romance.

I would just add that Argent's wonderful singing voice, finishing a lullaby for Jakub, demonstrated that he would give up his self-imposed taboos for love. *sigh*
