I will be joining you in this. My book goal is 150, since 2019 was 22, I have a long way to go. My non-book goal is to complete a total declutter and deep-clean of my house.Yes my first book of Lisa See but I have several of her books. Haven't read any " China" books except "The Good Earth".
I'm here! This is my first book set in China. I won't comment much here except to say that I finished the book last night. Oops! I had a lazy day at home and it just sort of happened. :) My reading goal for this year is 40 books. I'm trying to step up my game a little each year and get back to when I read 70-90 books a year. I've also made a list of books I want to prioritize this year. Today I want to get those printed out and into a TBR jar. My non-bookish goal is to declutter, one room at a time. Happy New Year, Everyone!!
I’ll be joining you! It’s been sitting on my shelf for a while so this is the push I need to get it read!
I am joining this month’s read along. I have read One of Lisa See’s other books set in China, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. Started it on audio but didn’t care for the narrator. Changed to the book and REALLY ENJOYED IT! Lisa See writes beautifully! My non-bookish resolution is to be a more organized. I know where everything is -it’s just very cluttered!
And wishing all of you a Healthy and Happy New Year!
Oops, my bookish goal is 100 books this year. Last year it was 50 and I read 89 so I’m pushing it a bit. But having to push reading...yay!
I'll be joining in. I picked up several Lisa See books this past June at a library book sale. It will be my first from her. My reading goal this year is set at 52 and hoping to get through a lot from my physical tbr -own shelves! A non-bookish goal is to continue with my fitness routine that I started at the beginning of December.
My bookish goal is 20 books read by the end of the year. I didn't meet my goal for 2019 due to be blessed with my 6month old and for a while I was focused on her recovery after birth from the NICU. Plus school and transition from the hospital to home. I thank God for my 10 year old. She's been a huge help with her little sister!! I have never read a book by Lisa See. I will check Libby and RBdigital to see if the book or audio book is available. If it is I'll try to participate with this month's reading. If not then I'll continue with the few books I'm reading now and check in for February read of the month. Happy New year to everyone here!! Happy reading and good luck with any reading goals!!
I have not read any Lisa See books. But, I look forward to this one. Bookish goal for the year: Read 2 chapter books a month to my son (besides the picture books we read at night and what he already reads himself). Today we started Mr. Popper’s Penguins. We are also listening to more audiobooks together. Today we started the first Animorphs book on audio when we drive places. Since I am a bookseller for an indie bookstore I get some titles free each month and it is one of the free ones so we are giving it a whirl. It’s hard to find books that are appropriate for his age at his reading level (1st grader reason late 3rd/ early 4th level) so if anyone has suggestions, let me know!! Haha. My non-bookish goal is to improve some of my skating skills for roller derby and become a better player. I am a rostered player for our local team, but I’ve only been rostered one full year so I’m still considered a “rookie”. I’d like to up my skills to grow as a player and teammate. Also, my other non-bookish goal for the year is to drink more water!! 🙂
I am here. The only book I read set in China was The Good Earth. My bookish goal is 50. The past year it was 20 but I missed it by one. I still have several unfinished. So I up the ante. I sort of slacked off a bit in December...bad timing. Non-bookish goal is to get rid of things I don't need or want that's lying around or taking space that's never been touched or used in years or decade. Lol.
I am here. Started reading the book last night. This is my first Lisa See book. I don't recall reading any other books set in China.I think my bookish goal should be to not check out so many library books that I don't have time to read. I have made too many trips back to the library with unread books. UGH! Krista, I like your no spend for a hundred days goal. I have been watching Youtube people who did a year long no spend except for necessities. (I am wondering if you can go 100 days without buying a book???? LOL)
I am here.. I have downloaded the ebook version from my library of the "Snowflower and the Secret Fan" and I started it last night. I am already intrigued. This is my first book set in China, not my usual reading material....
I am a newbie to the online book community. I found a booktuber by "accident" as she was purging her book shelves using the Marie Kondo method... and while watching her videos "Books and Jams" came up along the side as a recommendation so I wanted to check you out Krista!. Love your videos.. you are such a sweet lady with a good heart and I love your videos!
Even though I have always loved to read, over the years I became a book "collector" with them just sitting on my shelves. I have donated many of them so far this year to a friend who does online auctions for a cat rescue.
So my book goal is very small compared to many of you. If I can read 3/4 books a month then I'm doing good.
My non book goal is to finish de-cluttering my house, and selling it and getting settled into a smaller space that works for me and my "furkids" now that I am a widow of 4 years.
I'm in. Cant wait to dive into this one. I love her books. I have read The Shanghai Girls and it's sequel Dreams of Joy. Heartbreaking but beautifilly written. This year my reading goal is 50 which that's always my goal. I would love to finish a couple current series I'm reading this year as well. I have a financial goal to pay off a couple small payments this year too. Happy New Year everyone.
Hi I'm Brianna. This is my first Lisa See book. I read The Good Earth in middle school and again a few years ago. I can't remember any other books I've read that are set in China...actually I think one of Amy Tan's books was. So this would be my 3rd.
Goals: I always set my reading goal to around 52 books and adjust later... I've been in a major reading slump the last few so I'm trying to fix that problem. I also would like to read a lot of the books I already own (Snowflower and the Secret Fan is one of them) since I've been collecting (thanks Booktube :)) and then not reading them...
Other goals, well I've been writing a novel for the past five years, I'd really like to actually finish it this year. I guess that has to do with books too... My other goal has to do with meal planning/prep/organization and remembering to take my reusable bags out of the car when I go grocery shopping.
Happy New Year :)
Happy New Year to you all! I am joining the readalong this month because this book has been on my TBR but somehow did not get to the book. This will be my first Lisa See book.
As for goals, I launched my youtube channel this year thanks to the support and encouragement from Krista. As a general channel goal, I want to be consistent to my schedule and create my own statistics to track my reading habits.
As a goal oriented reader, I want to read 52 books at least (Goodreads challenge) in 2020 and also want to finish 7 ongoing series by reading 28 books. One additional goal is to read Sherlock Holmes series. Those are my main goals hehe.
I'm late.. I'm here :) This is my first Lisa See book and am looking forward to it. I have been hearing really good things about her books. I am not very good at setting goals so I don't have anything set. I am going to try and read more books this year. I actually did pretty good last year so I am hoping that I keep my momentum because I have a lot of books to read.
I’m just waiting to pick this up from the library to join the Read a Long. I read China Dolls which I really enjoyed. My goal is to read 70 books this year. I’m looking forward to reading different authors in the Read a Longs.
I am very late but I am here & will be jumping in to the book today. This will be my first Lisa See. I look forward to discussing with you guys. :)
I am late posting this but I will be joining in this month. It is my first Lisa See book. It is not my first book set in China I read a biography of Eric Liddell which was somewhat set in China. My bookish is goal is to read more from my shelves and buy less books. Non-bookish is to be healthier.
Just picked up the book from the library and excited to read a log with you all! My 2020 reading goal is 45 books.
I have already finished the book and I gave it 5 stars. The only word I can think of to describe the story is "heartbreaking".
I have read other books by Lisa See and have really liked them, although my favorite author in this category/genre is Gail Tsukiyama. I have owned Snow Flower and the Secret Fan for a long time, so this book group is the push I need to get it started! My book goal for this year is 40 books.
This is my first book by Lisa see and i was engrossed in the story from page one she has brought the lot of a woman in China into sharp focus, the foot binding incident shows the sharp contrast of what was accepted beauty and how you were looked upon if certain practises were not carried, out no mater how barbaric and deadly they were, plus the way the women dealth with their being born" a worthless girl" and how and under what circumstances their lot could improve.

Is this your first Lisa See book? Have you read other books set in China, or will this be a new experience for you.
And since it is January 1st today - Have you set any goals/resolutions for 2020? I'd love to hear one bookish goal and one non-bookish goal.
For me, I hope to make progress with 20 books in series in 2020. My non-bookish goal is to complete a 100 day no spend challenge, where I only spend on essential groceries/home needs, gas and bills. It's going to be tough!
