I am a big fan of supporting libraries so this year we have a challenge that you will have to utilize your local libraries for (hopefully).

The Dewey decimal system organizes books using three- digit numbers, or call numbers. Call numbers are assigned to book topics. trains, for example, is assigned 385. So a book about trains would have a call number of 385. You can find a library book's call number on its spine.

So the challenge is to take the first three digits of the call number, search your local library (or school library) for a book with the call numbers listed below that you would like to read and enjoy finding new genres and authors!

Do as many as you can in the year and post the books you find here.

Dewey Numbers:

398
413

Lea Ann (buntingla) | 767 comments The 413 D.D. number corresponds to dictionaries, so I read something very closely related in the 422 category. Hope that's okay!

Creative way of getting that one done!

It does make it a bit difficult. I was looking for a book the other day thinking I owned it and was all excited to read it then I realized it was on my list of books at the library.

I read (struggled through may be a better word for it) The Devil's Rooming House because I was thinking that I had the numbers down as groups like 100s, 200s, but I realize now I have actual specific numbers down. So it doesn't actually count for the challenge.

You should count it. This one is hard.

It is hard, I made it harder than I meant to.

The local library is now open for curbside pickup and I emailed my friend who works there the list of numbers for this challenge and told her about how I had picked the year the library closed for it and she said she would pick me out some books for it.

So, I have some very interesting choices for this challenge.

I just finished 598 with
The Life Cycle of a Penguin by Colleen Sexton The Life Cycle of a Penguin

It was a very nice change of pace to sit down and read this book. I am working my way through a bit of a slower more serious book and needed a break from it and this was perfect. I learned something about penguins and loved the pictures in the book.

I know! I was using the library at school for this one. May have to wait until school starts back up. I can't seem to get myself organized to use the pickup service at the community library.

Karin | 415 comments I finished Nadiya's Kitchen today for 641.5. I picked this book because I loved watching her Netflix cooking show and wanted to read more of her recipes.

Finished a book about Art, which is 700.

It had some interesting stuff in it and I wish I was talented with art as it looked like it could be fun to make.

Well, this wasn't the best type of challenge to have in 2020 but I still managed 5.

I hope some of you were able to get into your library at some point this year.

message 26: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) | 767 comments I got through 7 of these. Definitely having libraries closed didn't help.

message 27: by Karin (new)

Karin | 415 comments I only got 2 done before the libraries closed. I tried to get more done via curbside pickup but it was harder to do it. I am hoping to try again once my library reopens and I can go inside again.
