I LOVE this book.. I read it last month and OMG, one of my favourites of the year :) The movie was AMAZING too.. really good adaptation.
Book started out okay. I was ready to give up in the middle when it got exciting. Then it started to go downhill. Hated the end.
This is a great book! I love that it's so dark and the characters are twisted and interesting and all flawed in some way, like in real life. I think the media circus is an interesting element in the story, and good commentary on how these things unfold in the media, but rarely tell the whole story (I like the portrayal of the "story within the story"). Also, Gillian Flynn took a lot of flack for writing such an "evil woman," but it was great to see such a dark book written by a woman, about a woman. So maybe I feel a literary political pull, but I also just couldn't put it down because it was so interesting. And it came out years back, but we're still talking about it. Great writing, great story. (I also liked the movie, for the record.)
I love, love, loved this book! There is a super crazy twist that I totally didn't see coming...like threw my book across the room and swore like a sailor...didn't see it coming. The only fault I found was the ending. (view spoiler) Other than that I just enjoyed the entertainment value of the story. I didn't see the movie, and I probably won't because I don't want my own ideas about the characters to be messed with by another person's vision. Awesome book!
I read this book back in November. Here's what I thought: Finally, I got around to reading this book. Seeing the movie inspired me to bite the bullet and order the book from the library. I'm glad I did because this book was awesome. The first half didn't really grab my attention the way I was hoping it would. It wasn't slow but it definitely was dry and boring. The second half was when shit got real. I was blown away with the twist and how it was revealed. Watching the movie, I already new the 'second act" of the story. But I was still impressed and was loving every minute of it.
I finished the book and watched the movie yesterday. It was so amazing. I love the fact that Gillian Flynn wrote the screenplay, she did it perfectly; the vibe of the movie was perfect and I loved that she added some different things in the movie.
There are people who didn't like the ending but I personally loved it because it was explained perfectly in the book.
I feel like this book has been haunting me since its release. I used to see it everywhere but simply passed it by every time for some unknown reason. I'm glad the book club gave me the motivation to finally pick it up and put this ghost to rest. Sadly, because I waited so long to read it, I wasn't surprised by the big twist in the story. I didn't know what it was but I knew It was coming, so I wasn't all that shocked by the turn of events. But still...these characters...WHOA!
I finally got around to reading it(I got it for Christmas last year) and I just loved it. It was so well written and the characters I just loved to hate, they were really some messed up people haha. The story is really amazing and I loved all of the twists and turns the novel went through

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media--as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents--the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter--but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
NOT YA! Usually we only have YA books for our group reads but since this was such a popular pick and with the movie out, I decided to go ahead and try an adult read for our group read.
SPOILERS!!! I suggest staying out until you have read the book and/or seen the movie.
