Thanks Rose! I've never heard of that one by her Akanksha! You'll have to let me know how you like it!
This turned out to be much easier than I thought.
I just finished Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car by Ian Fleming.
This book was so much fun to read.

Didn’t know what to expect when I started Game of Thrones book one; but it ended up satisfying this challenge! So that’s cool!
Rose, that's always fun when they wind up being surprisingly easy isn't it! Kiersten, that's great it satisfied this challenge! How did you like Game Of Thrones?
Love this idea! Tamora Pierce has been a favorite of mine since I was ~10 years old, and she published a book centering on the youth of my favorite magic-wielding character recently, Tempests and Slaughter! Planning to read it in February :)
Brenda, that's a great choice! The story is really interesting, and I love the magic system! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Claire, sounds like a really good book! I have actually never read anything by Tamora Pierce, I think I need to change that LOL!

I finally want to continue the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix and the next book would be
for me. It is not magic magic but necromancy and a really interesting world!
Thanks Renee, and yes they do!
Nele, that series is soooooo good! I hope you enjoy the final book!
Sounds like a cute book Beth!
Glennis, did you get the illustrated one?????
Susy, sounds like a good book and glad you are enjoying it!

I read The Last Wish for this challenge and it was really good! I wanted to read it before I dive into The Witcher on Netflix. And I'm glad I managed it :D
Nele wrote: "I finally want to continue the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix and the next book would be

So, just to add, before I got to the Tamora Pierce book I was intending to read, my mom sent me the entire Inkeeper's Chronicles Series by Ilona Andrews (starting with Clean Sweep) and I read them all, haha. Swept me away for a few days, a very different/unique magic system and new twist on the old vampire/werewolf theme.
I read The Hanging Tree by Ben Aaronovitch. It’s fantasy & magic, set in London. But don’t start with this, it’s part of a series where the background stories of various characters develop even though each book has its own story. (The first book is Rivers of London.)
Trisha, I've been meaning to read the Rivers of London series for a long time now! I may have to put them in the queue for this year....what do you think of the series?
Eileen wrote: "Trisha, I've been meaning to read the Rivers of London series for a long time now! I may have to put them in the queue for this year....what do you think of the series?"I started the series because a friend told me about them & had met the author when he gave a talk at her local library. I enjoy them - but still think the first one was best. Not sure if you will like them as much. Although there’s fantasy & magic, parts of London are described brilliantly & in some scenes I can visualise exactly where things are happening. There is also quite a bit of humour - but it feels a very specific humour that Londoners would relate to, sometimes with quite obscure references. Strangely, of the books I’ve read so far, the one I liked least was one that moved out of London for part of the story.
Sorry, I don’t intend to sound negative - you may enjoy the series more than I do, as I know you read lots of fantasy. I’m trying to be realistic. Recently I’ve read some books by authors from other countries & really struggled with obscure references that make no sense to me, so I’m wary of recommending books that others may find put them in a similar situation. It isn’t a nationality “thing”, it’s more about specific locations.
I’d suggest you try book 1 & see what you think about it before deciding whether to read more. (Be careful, there are lots of novellas, some graphic novels etc in addition to the actual series.)
Hope this helps. I’ll be interested to know your opinions.
Okay, that helps! Some things that are "British" I totally love and others don't click. It honestly just depends on the story and the author. So yeah, I'll give the first one a try one of these days and let you know what I think.
For this challenge I read The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. There is a sense of "magic" to this book and it's really beautiful and well done. Truly breathtaking and such a wonderful book. Loved it!

I read
1/26/20 - 2/8/20, 5* which was different for me because I'm not a big basketball fan. But I enjoyed this book.
Completed Before the Coffee gets ColdThere is a cafe with a seat which transports you to the past or present. The book included 4 such instances which brought forth the nuances of relationships. Amazing indeed!
