Reading German Books in 2020 discussion

1. Rüdiger Safranski, Hölderlin
This is my first one and I really enjoyed it. My TBR is always in progress. :-)

Today I start the group read "Am Fluss", which I was lucky to find in my library.

2. Alex Capus, Königskinder
A cozy and relaxing read. A Couplet married for 25 years get

a couple gets stuck in the snow and while they have to wait for the next morning to come, the husband begins telling his wife a lovestory of a cowherd and a Farmer's daughter shortly before the French Revolution.
For this book I couldn't find an English translation, but some of his other books are available in English.

Looking at my TBR I must admit that women writers are a rare minority. Therefore I decided to focus from now on more on female authors, literary and non-fiction books as well.

That's the crux of my dilemma too, when I am looking at my shelves there are mostly our white male German authors you "must" read and funnily enough those are the books who are sitting the longest unread on my shelves.

3. Ewald Arenz, Alte Sorten

This one was published last year and yes, I picked it up because of the cover showing a drawn pear variety like in an old botanical book.
This is the story of a teenager girl, fled from a clinic, where she was treated for her anorexia and a woman in her forties living alone on her farm to which belongs a garden with old pear trees and vineyards as well. This is the story of the growing friendship of these two outsiders. While reading it I had always pictures in my head like a German TV film.
