I think we could read Elizabeth I by Margaret George to start 2015. I haven't spent much time in the group, but I think this year has focused more on novels by Philippa Gregory. It would be nice jump copyright, don't you think?
My nomination is Elizabeth I by Margaret George. :)
"Elizabeth's Bedfellows: An Intimate History of the Queen's Court" by Anna Whitelock looks fascinating!
- The first in a series of books by C.W. Gortner. It's been sitting on my kindle waiting to be read.
- Nonfiction but I think Claire Ridgeway does a fantastic job with facts versus myths. Her books are usually very reasonably priced on Amazon
Nominating The Children of Henry VIII and The Lady in the Tower: the Fall of Anne Boleyn, both by Alison Weir.
Nominating The Children of Henry VIII and The Lady in the Tower: the Fall of Anne Boleyn, both by Alison Weir.
sixth wife by Jean Plaidy or another of Alison Weir's book Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen and her court.
"Elizabeth's Bedfellows: An Intimate History of the Queen's Court" by Anna Whitelock sounds fantastic. Great nomination.
I second "The Sixth Wife" by Jean Plaidy. Then I'd like to nominate "The Concubine" by Norah Lofts: I've recently bought it and plan to read it shortly.
Silvia wrote: "I think it would be interesting to read Alison Weir's Mary Boleyn: The Great and Infamous Whore."Silvia, we read Mary Boleyn: The Mistress of Kings (the alternate title) in February this year; I thought it was very interesting. (The thread on it should be here in the Group Reads section; it hasn't been archived.)
Meri wrote: "sixth wife by Jean Plaidy or another of Alison Weir's book Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen and her court."Meri, we read Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen and Her World in January this year. (The thread should still be here in the Group Reads section, as it has not been archived.)
Sisters of Treason by Elizabeth Fremantle or Sacred Treason by James Forrester. Apparently, I'm in the mood for some treason ;-)
Natàilia wrote: "I haven't spent much time in the group, but I think this year has focused more on novels by Philippa Gregory. It would be nice jump copyright, don't you think?"Absolutely!
I'd like to nominate I, Elizabeth by Rosalind Miles or The Stolen Crown: The Secret Marriage that forever Changed the Fate of England by Susan Higginbotham.
Kerry wrote: "Sorry, I wrote it wrong. Tried to write by memory. It is actually A Traveller in Time by Allison Uttley"Thanks very much, Kerry!
Found it! A Traveller In Time.
I nominate, "I, Elizabeth" by Rosalind Miles.I nominate, "Elizabeth's Bedfellows: An Intimate History, The Queen's Court" by Anna Whitelock.
I nominate the books The War of the Roses,or Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen and her world, both by Alison Weir.
I don't know what to nominate, but I did want to throw out the new information about Richard the III that came out today. Confirmed illegitimacy! http://www.bbc.com/news/science-envir... Now I really want to reread The Sunne in Splendour. Or maybe something about Jane Grey as her line may very well be the rightful line. I just needed to share with other history nerds. :-)
Death and the Virgin : Elizabeth, Dudley and the Mysterious Death of Amy Robsart written by Chris Skidmore.Elizabeth 1 by Margaret George.
I am really having an Elizabethan theme going having spent the last month researching the the portraits of Elizabeth and the iconography of her dresses. Pure joy :)
St. Thomas ' Eve by Jean Plaidy about Thomas Morethe Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir
These are my nominees!
I nominate Young Bess by Margaret Irwin . Was also going to nominate Sisters of Treason but I see that's been nominated already.
Elena wrote: "... "The Concubine" by Norah Lofts: I've recently bought it and plan to read it shortly."LOVED it!
I too am interested in the Richard III article. Sorry Tudor fans I always thought that Henry VII had a rather tenuous hold on the succession line. What about Bring Up The Bodies by Hilary Mantel. We are reading Wolf Hall now.

Bring up the Bodies is so good! I loved Wolf Hall, but found the POV a bit difficult to grasp. Bring up the Bodies was quickly paced, intriguing, and amazing. Mantel needs to finish book 3!
I saw a link recently suggesting Cromwell 3 is set to be released in 2015. There was a title but it escapes me now.
Book about Elizabeth of York (there are several) or book about Elizabeth I. I am trying to find the book about Lady Jane Grey by Allison Wier, but maybe we should save that for later because it's new and more expensive. I like many of the other suggestions, so I won't be disappointed. JRG

war of the rose by allison wier.

Thank you, Samantha!
Alright, that looks like plenty of nominations. I'll go start a poll.ETA: War of the Roses by Alison Weir stops in 1471, so I think I'm going to have to disallow it; it's too early. (I've read it; there aren't any Tudors, and Elizabeth of York is a small child at best.)
Also "The King's Confidant" is the alternate title of St. Thomas' Eve, and what GR gave me for that one.
And here's the poll: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1... !Also on front page of group, between the bookshelf and the pictures section at the bottom.
And the winner - by one vote! - Alison Weir's The Children of Henry VIII.ETA: Discussion thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... .

If you can't remember what we've already read as a group (I know I can't always!), there's a shelf for them ("group read") on the group's bookshelf.
If the book you're considering nominating is a later book in a series - does it work as a stand-alone? (Like many of Philippa Gregory's novels, for example.) If not, you might want to nominate the first book in the series instead, or check the group bookshelf to see if we've read any books in the series in the past. (For example, we've read the first book of C.J. Sansom's Shardlake series, Dissolution, but not any later books. A good nomination there might be Dark Fire, the second book in the series.)
Two nominations to a person, please.
