Hi Lois - question - several of my groups are doing catch up months in December - read any book read during year you didn't get a chance to read - does that work?
Dee wrote: "Hi Lois - question - several of my groups are doing catch up months in December - read any book read during year you didn't get a chance to read - does that work?"Yes, that works.
I have Northern Lights which is otherwise known as The Golden Compass. So I wondered if I could read that for Option 1? Then I can read The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald for Option 2.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "I have Northern Lights which is otherwise known as The Golden Compass. So I wondered if I could read that for Option 1? Then I can read The Great Gatsby - [au..."The GR main page for The Golden Compass indicates that Northern Lights is the original title, so that works.
BOOK # 2 - Please verify book currently #35 on THIS WEEK, United States (date 04Dec14)
(just in case it drops off)
Thanks

Confirmed.
Another BOOK #2 option - currently # 45 on the ALL TIME, United States list (date 04Dec14)
(Though I doubt this list will change much in the next several months - still it's only 5 from the bottom.)
Just to clarify ... Book #1 can be a F2F book club, correct? Or does it have to be a Goodreads book group?
Book Concierge wrote: "Just to clarify ... Book #1 can be a F2F book club, correct? Or does it have to be a Goodreads book group?"Book 1 does NOT have to be a Goodreads book group. I was thinking it would be fun to see what people's real-life book groups were doing, though if some do not have real-life book groups, other on-line book groups would work, and there's the other option, of reading a previous SRC Group Reads.

Confirmed.
Hi LoisPlease can I check that I have understood correctly? For Book 1 from any non-SRC group, am I right in thinking it's ok to choose a book that the group read during ANY Dec, Jan or Feb? Including Dec 2014, Jan 2015 and Feb 2015?
Thanks. Andrea

Good question! That probably needs to be edited in the task. It's meant to be this December 2014, January 2015, and February 2015, during the current winter SRC time frame.

Aha! That's good for me - the book I was thinking of is one of my group's current reads :-)
Nicola wrote: "Can I please get Frankenstein verified? Currently at #20 on the United Kingdom, All Time."I don't have access to the UK lists, but you don't need verification in advance. Just note the list, the date, and the number on the list when you post the completed task. It will be fine.
CaCan you please verify #40 since I may not get to the book until Next Month https://www.goodreads.com/book/popula...Wuthering Heights
Angel **Book Junkie** wrote: "CaCan you please verify #40 since I may not get to the book until Next Month https://www.goodreads.com/book/popula...Wuthering Heights"
Confirmed.
It should not matter when you actually read the book; if it is on the current month's list, that particular list will not change. Next month will be a different list, but if you note that it was on December's list, you will be fine, even if it drops off the list in January. When you select the book, just note which list, the date it was generated, and the position of the book on the list; then report that information when you post the completed task.
did i do this right for book 2? Book 1: I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella.
From the SRC Read Shelf
Book 2: And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.
Found on Most popular bookclubs books list. Generated Dec 03, 2014 02:00AM from December's month list #44.

For Book 2, you would also want to specify what country's list. I found it at #44 on the US list, but if you're in another country or using the world list it might be different.

yes its on the US list, I will add that in as well. Thanks.
I take it for book 1, I can use a book that one of my other goodreads groups is doing as a buddy read/discussion book for the months of this challenge? Just wanted to be sure. :)
Nicole wrote: "I take it for book 1, I can use a book that one of my other goodreads groups is doing as a buddy read/discussion book for the months of this challenge? Just wanted to be sure. :)"Yes, a book you read for another goodreads book group during December, January, or February works for this.
Can I get The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry verified? It is #28 on This Week's list as of today.Sorry- I just read through and noticed you are advising people not to worry about verification. Gah!

Right. Just note the information about the list and be sure to include it in your post with the completed task.
Book 1 (SRC group reads) - A is for Alibi by Sue GraftonBook 2 (This Week In The United Kingdom, #23) - Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez

Good choices. Be sure to note the list and position of Book 2 when you post.
I just wanted to say that I appreciate this task. I'm reading my f2f February book club selection for it. But I also found our April selection in the All-Time list, so I can get that done early, too. :) Double book club fun!

We're reading When Jesus Wept for Feb and dipping back into the classics for April with To Kill a Mockingbird. Our Jan choice was The Auschwitz Escape, which I also got in for this challenge.
Bellagbear wrote: "hey would a comic be allowed for option A if you participate in a comic reading group?"There is an SRC rule about comics that allows them only for 5, 10, and 15 point tasks unless specifically allowed for higher point tasks. They are not specifically allowed in this task, so it wouldn't work for this one. You can check the Rules of the Challenge for more information, under Book Formats.
One of SRC's group reads was the The Giver; would this work for Option 1 even if "Children" is list as a Genre on the main page? Thanks!

Yes, it will work. You'll need to include the AR BookFinder information, per SRC rules, when you post.

My neighborhood book group consists of all the women who live on my street, readers and non-readers alike. It is mostly about community, but we actually do spend time discussing the selected book, followed by an often more lively conversation about choosing the next book. I often bring a Goodreads list of the most popular book club books as a starting point for the selection process.
Read 2 books, one from each option below.
Book 1. If you belong to a book group, other than the SRC, this can be a book you read for your book group in December 2014, January 2015, or February 2015; OR pick any SRC Group Reads book, from any past season, that you didn’t read previously. The SRC Group Reads selections are on the SRC Read Shelf.
Required: Specify which of these options you chose.
Optional: Share something about your book group or the conversation about this book selection.
Book 2. Check out what other book groups are reading and maybe find a book to suggest for your book group’s next selection: Read a book from the Most Popular bookclub books list. Just above the #1 book, you can select this week, this month, or all time; select your country or the world; and choose one of the books on the list.
Required: State which list among the options, the date the list was generated, and the position of the book you selected.
