The novel was inspired by a 2009 New York Times article (https://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/04/ny...) about an undocumented immigrant from China who spent 18 months in detention after being arrested at a bus station on her way to Florida for a new job. Did this book change the way you look at immigration in the United States?
