Oh yes, if and when you start on one of those old books, feel free to post on the archived group read threads: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...We keep those open and anyone is welcome to chime in no matter how long ago the group read was.
Also, here is our shelf that shows all the group reads we've completed: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

I swear. FoF has the best mods around. ;-)
I totally agree! ;)I really like the freebie month idea. Of course I usually make every month into a freebie month for myself, but you know. ... official.

lol
This is a great idea Chris! I have not been reading as much this year, and there are so many group reads I've missed. Lets hope that I'm able to get a few read in January :)

I'm actually hoping to use 2015 to rest. my goal has been purposely set low, and I'm centering my choices around FoF and my current collection.
My hope is that the only new books I buy in 2015 will either be a FoF book club selection (past or present) or part of a series that I'm reading.

"I, too, am going to limit the number of books that I buy in 2015. I'm going to keep my Audible account (since it's a subscription and I pay yearly), but as far as other buying of books... I am going to limit myself.
It's not a full ban (which is painful and soul-crushing), but I have close to 400 physical books in my possession that I have not yet read. That's a little crazy. So, my thinking is that if I want a new book, I need to read 10 of the ones I already own.
One of my 2015 goals will be to cut the amount of books I buy down. I think I want to only allow myself 1 new book for every...2-3 I read that I already own.That...will require more willpower than I think I have.
I was originally going to do a full year long ban on book buying. I've done it before. It sucks big time. LOL so I'm allowing a little flexibility, and a little incentive. If I want a new book, I gotta earn it.
^I could do a full year ban on book buying, except for Information Architecture books that are unavailable from my library. I'm targeting a few IA books that will end up costing me about $50 in total which should be it for buying. Probably. Hopefully. Maybe.

How will you earn them?

I know those hopes.

Why did I just remember that I already have about 3 books on pre-order??

So, you're doing a 10for1 goal? Way to make me feel like a slacker with my 3for1 goal...
;-)

No more than 4 titles.
*stomps off in a huff*
:)
This excludes books for my 4-year old.

:-D
I was thinking of the budget but...I want to see this. You've got me many a time... LOL
I'll do it. The writing down everything aspect. I might miss, but it will be a good reminder to be conscious of what I spend.Adding it to my Challenge thread now.

:)
It does help with that. I've curtailed my spending a bit after seeing how much I've spent each month.
Becky, I'm feeling deja vu to the old B&B challenge where we earned book buying points for reading books we already owned. I failed miserably at that.

I know... I'm afraid that I will too - but I feel like if I don't allow myself some flexibility, that the results could be... catastrophic. I still have a LOT of empty shelf space now, after all.
colleen the contrarian ± (... never stop fighting) ± wrote: "Is that a month, or the whole year?"The year. It's aggressive, but I've kept $20/month budget for the last three years without any trouble. This year I'm at $117.69 spent and I had to do a lot or purchases to get through my challenge. That shouldn't be a problem with next year's challenges.

lol!
I put myself on a book buying ban for 2014 -- I only permitted buying books for gifts. Though I allowed spending a gift card or Amazon promotional credits on myself, so I didn't wind up jonesing for new books too badly. And, I did break down and order an audio book from England that was not available in the USA. But *mostly* I stuck to my buying ban.Becky wrote: "I have close to 400 physical books in my possession that I have not yet read. That's a little crazy." Ummm... don't feel badly. I have at least 1000 physical books in my house that are unread. I hope to go through them in January and separate out the ones that I'm willing to let go.
I have to definitely cut down on my book buying sprees now. This year I'm going to restart my series challenge and beat it this time. As for buying books, I'll be limiting it to books I really want to read and series I really want to continue. If I already have a group read choice, or can borrow one, I'll join. But I won't be able to buy books just because anymore. Though, all together, I own more than 1,000 books. It's not as if I'll run out of things to read. ;)

I know you're looking for the monthly polls. Well, good news and bad news. The bad news is that we're not running polls for new books in January.
The good news is that we're having a Catch Up Month.
We've realized that after our first year in FoF, we have 49 group reads on our shelves. That's 4 a month, plus one extra for the one time we had a tie on one of the categories.
Well, a few of us haven't kept up and read all 49 books. Some of us haven't really kept up and read 4-9 books, for that matter.
But don't fret. For in January, we're going to have catch up stuff going on. It's your chance to finish off books you've started but ran out of month. Or books that you meant to get to, but were too busy with real life to squeeze them in.
If this goes well and is popular enough, we could even run some sort of year long challenge to get those old group reads in (and some new ones too!).
At any rate, this can offer everyone a break if they're feeling overwhelmed with their TBR's. But don't fret, as we'll be back with our regular polls for the February books, with those going up next month at the usual time.
